Sea of Poppies
The title=”Sea of Poppies” target=”_blank”>sea of poppies at the Tower of London is stunning.
The FugGirls also have a slide show of the Tower of London.
What a beautiful tribute to the lives of those lost in war. The magnitude of the ocean of red is breath-taking and heartbreaking. Paul Cummins, the artist who came up with the idea, and Tom Piper, the stage designer who made sure it all worked out properly, did a beautiful job with this memorial. I honestly don’t know of any other memorial this amazing.
There were also one million poppies dropped as part of the World War I centenary remembrance ceremony.
One hundred years. We do not forget.
Nor should we, though the version of the history leading up to it is a little simplistic. The poppies at the Tower mark the British dead, I think we could cover all of Belgium with these if we marked all the dead on all sides of the slaughter.

I desperately want one of the poppies. I just have to see if I can ask for my Christmas gift early this year.
I do hope the installation lasts a very long time. I hope they don’t try to rush it off the grounds. It’s a very powerful reminder of the cost of war.

Love the sea of poppies, love that they remember and love that they are selling them for charity.
Pretty much totally love it.

Only thing I don’t love about it? That I’m not there in person!
