Archival Footage

I’m going to have to look for the photos from when I was a kid so I can play along with Me Now Me.

One of my personal challenges this year is to get over myself and actually appear in photographs. I’ve made great strides this weekend, but still have a long way to go. YMNM could actually help.

I find this whole concept to be pretty amazing. Some people still live in the same place, or revisit the one shown in the photos. Some have similar clothing. There are those who assemble all the same people to recreate their images, and there are others who document the passing of time by the absence of loved ones or the presence of new ones. Intriguing. Funny. Heartbreaking. Lovely.

  1. I have never photographed well. Even as a kid, my mom would sit my sister next to me and she always looked excellent and I was… the other one. Now people try to take pics of me and end up with the reddest of red eyes or the enormous double chin. Took forever to get an avatar pic that didn’t make me want to jump out the nearest window. I give up and I stay behind the camera as much as possible.

  4. Teresa, save for a very small period of time in my teens, I was always the one who stood out in a photo — in a bad way — myself. This is why I don’t like to appear in photos. But I’m working to get over myself and just allow life to be, to participate, to accept that whether or not I appear in a photo, I’m still going to look as I do so I may as well be in the picture and have proof I was there. Weird way to get to that point, but there you have it.

Jan, I’m thinking you in the red dress.

Pam, yeah, the revisiting former fashions does crack me up a bit and it moves me at the same time.

  5. Well, heck… I meant friends… and siblings. Duh! All the pics were so cool…

  6. The red plaid? Ok, I’ve changed my mind. No recreations for me!
