Squab

DaGoddess @ 23:11

Quite possibly the best episode of “Two and a Half Men” ever tonight.

Sure, scoff if you want, but it’s true. From beginning to end, it had us laughing our asses off.

After the anti-climactic ending of “Everybody Loves Raymond”, it was just what the doctor ordered. Now, don’t get me wrong – “Raymond” is normally top notch entertainment. However, aside from small sweet moments, the finale wasn’t what I was expecting. Frankly I preferred the pre-show behind-the-scenes show.

Back to “Men.” The whole bit with Jake was absolutely priceless. The sushi, the squab, the spaghetti, the tub, and, in a moment of inspired genius, the closing theme song.

I love when T.V. is done well.

Chuck Lorre deserves the golden squab for this one.

  1. I agree, although I think Two and a Half is always a gem.

  2. Brilliant. That final chorus of “Squaaaaaaab” had me snorting water out my nose.

  3. I read (in TV Guide, I think) that Raymond purposely did a non-‘end-of-the-world’ episode.

Even knowing that, it was a bit disappointing to just see it end without even a curtain call.

  4. Hmm… for some reason, I just never did get into Ray. I’ve seen a few re-runs, and they’re funny.. but it just never grabbed me. Then again, very little TV really grabs me anymore. There are only a handful of new shows I actually bother to watch: The new Battlestar Galactica (yes.. big Scifi geek.. loved Babylon 5 for instance), House MD on fox, Simpsons (probably overall favorite show, but it’s been going downhill for the last few years), Enterprise (gone)… Firefly was great.. gone. I even like John doe… gone. *sigh* Really sad how many good shows Fox has cancelled in the last few years, especially considering that the network was made by giving shows that started off pretty slow a change to build an audience, which then became huge hits (X-Files, Simpsons, even Married with Children.. which I never really did watch).

Actually, I think one of the best shows in the last few years is british… MI-5 (Spooks to the brits) on A&E, one of the 2nd season (series for brits) episodes is probably one of the best hours of TV I’ve ever seen. A bonus on the DVD sets for that show.. the real shows are 1 hour long in the UK. Here they’re cut for commercials, so watching the DVDs even after seeing the broadcasts on A&E means there’re new scenes that add to the stories. Too bad their seasons/series are so short though.. 13 eps per.

I find that I enjoy some things better later when they come out on DVD and I can watch a huge run of them.. doing that now with seasons 1-4 of CSI.. another show that I just didn’t bother getting into, then found later and enjoyed, so I picked up the DVDs.

I guess preferring the DVD route explains why I have just a few DVDs in my collection. :)

  5. Miguelito, yes, I’m aware of your DVD collection. When your sister showed me the list, I about fell out of my chair.

Now, Raymond was one of those shows that really hit home with some people but not others. It only got better over the years.

    Back to “Men” –

I almost titled the post “What About Squab” after one of my favorite movies…that had me laughing as hard as this episode did. Sometimes…..Oh man, that was just one beautiful episode.

What about the hand thing at the end? Too freakin’ funny!

  6. I like Raymond, but the wife character drives me nuts. Can’t stand her. Ruins the show for me. I’ve been trying to catch 2 1/2 for a few weeks now after some people told me how damn funny it is, but I’ve missed it. Have to set the ol’ VCR if it still works…

  7. Everybody didn’t love Raymond. I didn’t. Good-hearted but dufus husband who needs constant guidance by his wife to keep from pissing on his shoes. Wife who almost always is right in how to deal with people and is almost always right when dealing with her husband and wins all the arguments. Shrewish mother with strained relationship with daugher-in-law. Dumb-ass brother. One-dimensional father who is sick of his wife.

These characters are in every situation comedy of the last 4 decades. Or more. I watched this show a couple of times, and I can’t stand it.

  8. After watching Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab, I just HAD to have a copy. The problem is that it probably won’t be shown until next year. Do you know anyone that happened to record it?
