I Still Don’t Get It

DaGoddess @ 04:00

I keep finding referral links in my stats from Twitter (the lastest from Medieval Times — thanks, guys!). I’m always surprised by this, but I guess I shouldn’t be. I mean, I understand that Twitter is the latest and greatest PR tool in the world, possibly the entire universe, but I still can’t bring myself to jump on board.

Then there are all the links I get from Facebook. Considering I don’t link the blog to my Facebook account, it’s kind of weird. Somebody’s linking, but it ain’t me. Since FB is the second greatest PR tool in the world, possibly the entire universe, am I doing myself a disservice by not connecting the two?

Am I limiting myself? Or am I staying focused? I prefer to think I’m staying focused. I could be wrong, though. I don’t think I am. It’s just possible. I don’t see how I can maintain everything. If I had an ace team of people to do this for me, perhaps. As long as it’s just me, there’s no chance in hell that I could keep up with it all.

So…am I missing a golden opportunity, lazy, or perfectly content to be an obscure blogger? Go ahead. Comment. Place your vote. I won’t be offended.

  1. Social media is SO not my thing. I gave up on twitter and only use Facebook to pay Mafia Wars! LOL!

So… I dunno. But if it’s working for you without any effort at all on your part… then why change?

  2. Yeah, seems like people are twittering about me, so why should I bother? I’ll let them do the work. I can barely keep up here.

    Yes!

I have a couple of friends that I only have contact with through FB, so that’s the only reason that I keep up with it at all. And Twitter is full of twits twitting about the stupidest things, so I don’t even go there.

  4. Facebook claims to own everything someone links to (or at least they used to). They’re scary and evil.

I rarely get hits from Twitter, and never from Facebook.

  5. Just as I was dragged kicking and screaming into the digital camera age, so shall I be into twitter. :pirate:

  6. Twitter is crack. Stay away if you’d like to be productive on a daily basis.

  7. Mel wins! I don’t need more digital crack in my life.

Whew! Thank you for the early intervention, Mel.

  8. I totally can’t get into those things either. Heck, I can barely keep up with email, texting, and blogging. (As you probably noticed, I’m wayyyy behind on the blog!)

But Alan really likes linkedin.com (Hope I spelled that right!) He’s actually connected with a ton of people on that. Still, who has time for all these things?! Eeek!

  9. I’m on LinkedIn but don’t do anything with it.

And yes, I had noticed your abrupt disappearance, Marcie. I just figured life took precedence (which I whole-heartedly endorse). I hope it wasn’t anything bad, though.

  10. Twitter is stupid people. Mafia Wars is a reason to be on Facebook

    ???????

Do what you want. PR / Marketing is supremely time-consuming- it’s why so many people get paid to do it.

  12. I have FB and Twitter accounts. I followed certain people on twitter intentionally the others are extras. FB because people kept sending me links and having my own account was the only way to view the stuff they sent. I also have Linkedin, but seldom touch it.

Any of these (just like blogging) will take up as much time as you allow. On FB I do NOT do any of the games. I hooked my tweets to FB so I only have to comment once and it shows in both places. I periodically drop in to comment on some FB posts. But my blogs come first.

FB and Twitter have been useful in their own ways for various things, but they are certainly not essential to anything. Then again – nothing online is essential, I do however like the interaction of all of it. ;)

  13. I think I’ll just stick with my blogging. Seven years of it has served me well. I’ve made awesome friends and experienced so many wonderful things because of blogging…I don’t need the distraction of Twitter.

FB, well, that’s proven to be a good way to keep in touch with people who don’t necessarily need to be a part of my blog world.

    Sigh.
