Just Curious

How can a movie that hasn’t come out yet receive Golden Globe nominations?

  1. I think it’s because many movies play the festivals (Sundance, Cannes, etc) before they are released to the main stream theatres. They also do a lot of private screenings for union members and critics pre~release.

Alan, my S/O, is Director of Operations for a theatre chain and has often had the privilege of running/being at some of these screenings. A few times, he’s got to watch the “daily’s” of a new movie being shot. I’m not sure if they do this anymore, now that so much is digital. But they used to screen, in a theatre, what was shot each day, so that they could see what needed to be redone or whatever.

  2. I still think it’s a “cheat”. Then again, these are industry awards. But still…I really don’t think it’s fair for a movie to be trailered on TV with “nominated for 37 Golden Globe awards” almost a month before the movie is released. It’s an obvious push to declare the movie a winner. I think it should be the other way around — the nominations should only come after a movie’s been released.

    Or maybe I’m just grumpy.

  3. I totally agree with you. But the movie industry is what it is. It is unfortunately very “cut throat” on many levels. Even on the exhibition side. Oy.

So, you may be grumpy, but you are totally right!

  4. And this bullshit with campaigning for awards? Must be done away with completely.

  5. The campaigning should be done away with along with the political filibusters masquerading as acceptance speeches.

  6. And, yes, spellcheck is the only reason I got filibusters right. :zombie:

  7. Kimberley, I’m with you 100% on that crap. If I wanted to know what an actor thinks about these things, I’d send them a fan mail and ask.
