External Hard drive says 1.47gb left.

Under 16gb left on the laptop.

Burning CDs is another backup method, but not ideal. And I can’t get the computer to burn a DVD.

I’m going to have to ditch anything not entirely necessary. That means inspirational images and words. ARRRRRRGH!

how did I fill up that external drive so quickly? HOW?

  1. I know EXACTLY how you filled it up! (In the same amount of time that you filled that drive, I filled a 500GB drive.) I just added a 1TB backup drive to my system fer crissakes (in addition to my two 500GB drives). PLEH. NewEgg just had the same 1TB drive on sale for $99 the other day. I think I’m going to buy another (maybe two) and try a RAID. As it is now, if one of these drives crashes, I’m toast. I can burn DVD”s all right, but I can take two DVD’s worth of pictures in a single day; so not cost or space effective. I’ve considered online storage, but I’m not sure that I can trust it. This issue has been bugging me a lot!

  2. An external hard drive is all you need to fix you right up.

  3. for about 20 bucks each you can get 8 gig thumbdrives. drop eveything onto them. they’re smaller, lighter, easier to move, easier to store, and as faster or faster than a cd or dvd. I have one on my keyring that’s smaller than all my keys. Cost me less than my usual bar tab……..

  4. But P2, I can shoot 8gb in one sitting. The point is, what to do with it after! I don’t think I need a bunch of little drives around. I need storage that’s workable.

I think Jan has the right idea. Time for RAID. Online storage is fine as a backup, but as an only solution.

And Cheri, I’m going to bring all my photos to your house for storage until I get my RAID.
