Deadliest Catch

DaGoddess @ 23:51

Guess what Little Dude wants to do this week? Aside from making the next two days of school disappear.

He wants to the guys from Deadliest Catch.

LD got caught up on the show tonight. He’d missed last week’s episode. And tonight, we both sat on the edge of our seats as we waited to see what happened with the Wizard crew. Can I just say “ouch!” and leave it at that? Yeah. Um. No. Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll stick with back surgery and child birth, thank you very much. I’ve done the broken rib thing, so I feel for Monte. (Mine? Get this: I was recovering from my hysterectomy when my dog and the neighbor’s kitten decided to play tag. Kitten ran between my legs and then up a tree. The dog followed suit and I didn’t move quickly enough. I went face first toward the driveway, which was a good five inches higher than the yard in that section. Thankfully my ribs took the hit. I had ample time to recover. Not like being out in the middle of the Bering Sea.) Oh, and the other two and their injuries? OUCH! Especially the eye. I don’t do eye anything. Nope. No. Just…noooooo.

Anyhow, LD was thrilled to see Captain Phil on the Cornelia Marie again. That’s his #1 captain. Major hero worship going on. Kinda sweet, if you ask me.

Also, we both liked getting our first look at the Incentive and her crew. Captain Harry Lewis sports the best moustache on TV, easily beating Paul Teutul, Sr., by a mile.

There’s a lot going on with DC and if you’re not watching, I just don’t know what to say to you. I could offer you a hotline to call for help (it’s called “your local cable company”) or perhaps I should be more prolific in my blogging the show. But, frankly, I’m not prolific in much at the moment. It’s the last week of school, there’s physical therapy, an appointment with the Very Cute Doctor, and a million other things. I can’t help you if you aren’t willing to help yourself. Deadliest Catch, folks. Seriously. It’s the best show on television.

I’ll be here waiting if you decide to play along. Dave, I know you’re watching. P2, I know you were trying to keep your eyes open long enough tonight. Kaknockers and Deb, well, that goes without saying.

Oh, and a little P.S. here: A lot of people have come here looking for info on why Murray Gamrath left the Cornelia Marie after king crab season. From what I’ve read, he’s not gone gone. That’s all I know, folks.

  1. Yep, I’m still here. Missed the 9:00 (Eastern) airing of it last night, so had to catch the midnight show. I just hope that the Wizard can find a way to salvage it’s season. My question is, are the other two crew members out too, or can they return to work? Monte’s definitely a no-go, they’ll have a devil of a time coming up with a replacement with anywhere near his experience. But if the other two can’t make it either, the Wizard’s season may be well and truly hosed, because I can’t see them functioning with a full load of greenhorns and no veteran deck boss.

Speaking of deck bosses, who’s in charge of Cornelia Marie’s deck in Murray’s absence? Jake is trying to step up and he may be a decent deckhand, but he’s no deck boss. I applaud Phil for calling down his boys for their harassment of Steve. You just don’t do that to an older, experienced guy, even though he’s new on the boat. I know there’s a pecking order on these boats, but a young punk Jake bossing around a guy almost as old as Phil just won’t do, and that’s probably exactly what Phil was thinking when he chewed Jake’s ass. Also, it’s good to see Phil in charge, in decent health (for now), and on top of the crab so quickly.

Notice the change in Capt’n Andy’s demeanor when the fishing dramatically improved. Normally very laid back, he was dropping f-bombs right and left and chewing out his crew when they weren’t catching. When the crab started coming in, he was absolutely beside himself with excitement. But he can’t do a decent crab shuffle like his brother. I was hoping Johnathan would do his crab dance, but was disappointed.

Hardly saw the Northwestern tonight. Did they do much of anything?

What was that other boat’s name? Usually I can’t get into the extra boats, but something about this captain mesmerized me. Might have been the beard. He sounds like an old timer with lots of good stories to tell.

  2. I knew you’d be here, Dave! Yep.

The new boat is the F/V Incentive. Harry Lewis is the captain. I like him. Could be the moustache. Not sure.

Phil did ride his boys on how they were treating Steve. For good reason, too. You just don’t give the new guy shit for the hell of it. He’s not a greenhorn. Anyhow, I don’t know the answer to the deck boss question and I’m feeling a bit too lazy to go dig around (terrible, I know). I don’t doubt that it’s taken care of though.

I’m sure we’ll get the crab dance from Johnathan before too long.

And is it just me or would you rather watch the show with all the swearing intact? I’m definitely okay with f-bombs and the like. I kind of wish they’d give us the option of watching the censored and uncensored version.

Sig and the guys were pretty scarce last night, weren’t they? I’m really okay with that since last week we had Jake hurling after biting the head off the fish. We’ll get plenty of Northwestern time soon enough.

And with the Wizard, my guess is that at least two of the guys are out. Monte, definitely. The guy with the really black, swollen eye? Probably. That sort of orbital injury isn’t just painful, it can cause a lot of interesting problems if not properly treated. My guess is there’s a fracture under there. But that’s just a guess. And I’m also guessing it had to be drained. Ouch. And no. Can’t watch it. Nope. *shiver*

  5. Sure, sure, sure, Jan. :pirate: :box:

    this is quality entertainment!

And besides, I have a life. It’s pretty boring next to the lives these guys lead.

It’s either this or :toast: :cocktail: and my liver can only take so much.
