Magic Light

DaGoddess @ 08:00

I love available light for photos. Sometimes, when you least expect it, you find yourself in a situation where there’s magic in the light available. Such was the case on Saturday. Here was the first person I encountered in that perfect spot. He goes by the nickname KC. Sixteen years old, plays like he’s known the blues for ages, as if he were born with them. Sweet, talented kid. Exactly the kind of teenager I hope Little Dude becomes.

  2. Thanks! That door was pure magic, I tell ya. I loved watching those who sat in that chair with the sunlight filtering in, bathing them in some spectacular soft light.

  4. Thanks!

Mr. Dimples was also seated there when I shot him.

  5. THATs what they look like (no. 3 my kind of “non-portrait” portrait. You and Patty had this corner covered so I went elsewhere :-) I’m stoked with a few of mine I’ve buzzed through.

  6. All around, I’d say the Blues Blast was truly amazing and gave us all a good opportunity to get some great shots. I’m so glad we went!

  7. These are great! The first one is very striking, I keep going back to it (although the logo on his shirt is distracting). I’m also drawn to the guitar smears in the second one.

  8. Thank you, Jan. If I were going to print this up or use it for a promotional piece, I’d definitely get rid of the logo. But I’m so far behind these days, I just don’t have the time at the moment.

I think what works so well in the first photo is the muted light. There were people moving in and out of the doorway, which would wreak havoc with the light. But, I like it. It’s so…subtle.

  9. Not “subtle” I don’t think. More like fundamental, elemental, intrinsic, essential, primal, elementary. Nothing but face, hands, guitar… pure.

    Awesome, awesome, shot.

  10. thank you.

I do so love many of the photos from that day. STILL working on all the images from that weekend. Sheesh, I took way too many. But the idea was to document thoroughly, not sparingly.
