Two Birthdays in One?

Da Goddess @ 11:32

Today is King Arthur’s birthday. We officially celebrated Saturday with our friends, games, and some pizza. A good time was had by all.

Still, today is the official day. And today also happens to be the day King Arthur’s daughter was admitted to the hospital after her water broke. No contractions yet, but it could well be that she’ll give birth at some point soon. If that’s the case, the baby will share a birthday with her grandfather. It’s about three weeks too soon. The lungs should be developed enough, hopefully.

Please say a prayer that mother and child are healthy, the labor is painless and without drama, and that we have even more reason to celebrate today.

My Pea

Da Goddess @ 13:23

King Arthur ordered me a new laptop since my other one was dying a nasty death. We looked and looked and looked, compared and contrasted the pros and cons of each. I opted for one that was exactly like my last one, including Windows 7. Well, we ended up with Windows 8 anyway.

And I hate it. I can’t figure out how to get things to set up appropriately. I have been through everything and it’s making me bonkers. Gaaaaaaaaaah!

Yes, the spoiled brat is bitching because things are the way she likes them. Little Miss Princess has found a pea and she doesn’t like it.

I am, however, exceedingly grateful for the computer. I just don’t like having to learn a new “language” to use it.

It’s rather like bitching out Santa because he got me a Ferrari and I’d asked for a Ford.

Again, I’m grateful, but I wish I could just jump right in and do what needs to be done instead of having to tap on keys at random, wiggle the mouse around to figure out how to exit windows, jump through flaming hoops of poop, beat my head against a brick wall repeatedly, beg to be run over by a Mack truck AGAIN, and, basically, attempt an advanced degree in a subject I don’t even have a minor degree in.

Guess it’s time to get back to figuring out how to operate this contraption and quit my ranting.

Wish me luck.

P.S. Thank you, King Arthur! You are, no pun intended, a true prince. I shall figure this out if it kills me.

Everyone Calls Her Windy

Da Goddess @ 11:18

We have crazy strong winds right now. Yesterday and today.

Our tall, strong ficus ended up looking a bit like Rapunzel on a bad hair day yesterday. The poor thing was turned practically inside out. I slept through most of the day when the winds had picked up so I was a bit shocked when I went out and saw what had happened. My back has been so bad I’ve fallen several times, smashing my shoulder. It hurts to sit. It hurts to stand. It hurts to walk. It hurts to lie down. Basically, I’m fucked.

I’m hoping most of the pain eases up when the wind does. It would be rather nice if that could happen.

So, Dear Mother Nature: PLEASE STOP!

Thank you.

Happy Birthday, Little Dude

Da Goddess @ 03:18

My baby is now 17.

Yes, LD has crept up to the precipice of majority seemingly overnight.

As I write this, it’s at exactly the time he was born. It was a tough labor, but he was worth every push, every bit of pain, and all the fear and excitement that comes with bringing a child into the world.

LD spent the first three or so days of his life in NICU. At 9lb, 5oz, he was the largest baby in there. We worried over him as his breathing wasn’t what it should be. Doctors checked him frequently. Family came in to see him. The priest came in to bless him. And he pulled through.

He had high bilirubin levels that almost resulted in him being hospitalized again, but he pulled through that as well.

And now, my Little Dude isn’t quite so little anymore. He’s tall, smart, funny, handsome, determined, and kind. He’s everything a parent could want in a child and then some.

I’m so proud to call this young man my son.

I love you, kiddo! Happy 17th birthday!

And This is Why I Don’t Plan Ahead

Da Goddess @ 03:29

Missed out on McCartney, sadly. Both King Arthur and I were completely wiped out from running errands the day before. We could hardly move. And that’s why I rarely plan ahead these days.

Still playing the waiting game with the insurance company.

I have, however, managed to log in some crazy time on clearing the old DVR of movies and such. Saw Parental Guidance the other night after we’d played games forever. It was funny. And it made me cringe when it was apparent that the kids were all being reared in that “we don’t say ‘no’ to our children manner that’s so prevalent these days. There were also baseball games without scores. You know, the ones were every kid gets a trophy just for participating. Between the three of us watching, we were ready to strangle the people behind such idiotic ideas. World: our kids need to know that not every one wins every time in life. You have to prepare your kids for life in the real world. Want them to feel good about themselves whether they win or lose? Show them you love them by giving them boundaries, by hugging them, and by encouraging them to give their best effort each and every time they attempt something. It’s great to win, but it’s also important to get out there and try, no matter the outcome. We learn best and appreciate true success when we have something to compare it to. What didn’t work? What do we need to do to improve ourselves for the next challenge that presents itself?

Yes, I’ve thought about that many times. It pisses me off when I hear that sort of drivel.

Made it out to the antique flea market on Sunday. It was a lot of fun. Found some amazing things and didn’t buy anything. Everyone else did, though. I’m good with that. It was just nice to be out in the sunshine with friends.

Now it’s time for me to start on some LD stuff. His birthday is this week and I’ve sent his card out already, but am awaiting his gift, which will have to arrive in his mailbox late. Got Mojo’s gift on the way, too, since she’s just a month away from her birthday. King Arthur’s birthday is a few days after LD’s and I have that to contend with. I hope he likes what I got him.

And with that, I’m off. Can’t do much more on the computer right now as it’s heating up and flickering to beat the band. New computer, please arrive upon my doorstep soon.
