Olfactory "rememories" (things that remind you of your childhood):
1) Crayons - fresh from the dryer and all over your favorite shirt.
2) Bubble Yum - grape.
3) A brand new baseball glove.
4) Smoke from the forbidden cigarette - the one that you stole from your folks who shouldn't be able to tell that you were the one who lit up but KNEW anyway
5) Puppy breath. You really wanted that dog and your parents said no.
6) Your sister's Jean Nate (or Hawaiian White Ginger)
7) Your dad's Old Spice
8) Mom's pot roast
9) Grandma's house
10) Flashbulbs
And, I have another -
11) Oilcloth
Thanks for reminding me, Kelly!

Well, I do come from a backward part of the country, but the truth is, yes, I'm pretty much that old.
Asthma and sinus infections, and cautery for the polyps caused by the latter, reduced my sense of smell, and coming-on forty years of smoking pretty well did it in. Nowadays a skunk is a mild annoyance. But -- do you ever smell anything in your dreams? It's about the only place I can.
Regards,
Ric Locke
How about your dad's Hai Karate aftershave?
Vick's Vap-O-Rub
Mom-washed clothes
Line-dried sheets
The basement
Chlorinated pool water
