1) My internet connection went out again tonight - even with the new modem. Cable guy fixed it all! Woo hoo! Old splitter in the wall caused all sorts of problems. When he removed it, I suddenly had too much signal (?!) and he had to reroute a few things. He replaced every bit of cable hooked in the place and things are working beautifully!
2) Unrelated: When I try to post or even comment, I'm getting 500 Internal Server Errors left and right. I have to beg finesse the damn thing to take a post. There's some sort of funk with my server - not related to me. I've submitted a ticket with my host. Tick tock tick tock tick tock. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.
3) I'm getting a weird icon on my task bar intermittently (see below - it looks like a blue cop light on top of mail.) It has a super bright blue spot...and if I mouse over it, I get an IP...I've looked it up and have the info. What the hell is that about? How do I get rid of it? (I ran Spybot S&D - thanks, Chris! But it's still showing up.) Mystery solved! My antivirus software update had the default set to show the scanner........D'oh!![]()
4) Spam names have picked up again. Twaddle A. Differentiates has returned with many friends. Better than getting comments from "bob" though.
5) I know there's a number five. I know it. I just can't remember what it is.
6) I'm really, truly NOT interested in a Rolex, m'kay?
Posted by DaGoddess at November 16, 2004 01:37 AMSounds like spyware. I recommend Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Posted by: Chris at November 16, 2004 03:19 AMYou may want to try adAware, if Spybot missed it (maybe unlikely, though). I also like CCleaner (Crap Cleaner), which will be able to automatically purge your Temp folders, trash bin, cookies, etc.

Also, it may actually be the cable company. We had the problem where the signal fluctuated when there was more draw because our box was so far off the trunk. They had to put in a new super cable up to the house. If a lot of people draw off your trunk line or your box is far from the street, you may be losing signal integrity when the power drops, and then you have to restart your modem and computer to reset before it will work again.... what a hassle. I doubt that malware would turn off your modem, but it will lock you off a functioning network.
