Lots of things on my plate today - but at least I'm at home for a change!
I spent last week in orientation, at work, at a computer training class, voting, seeing my kid for 20 minutes, and collapsing in an exhausted heap after staying up way too late every night. Too much to do, not nearly enough time in which to do it.
I'm finally back to a real nurse's schedule - three on/four off. Not that the days are in the order I'd prefer them, but that'll happen soon enough.
The new job is great! I love the people who work on the unit. The patient base is interesting. I spent my first day taking on a patient of my own (sooner than expected) and the second day saw me with two and three, depending on the moment. I'm doing better than I thought I would, but I also know that the difficult stuff is yet to come. There's so much I don't know...so much I need to know. Everyone at work assures me that I'll get it, and that they'll be there to help me learn. Did I mention that I love the people I work with?
Despite the early start time, I'm looking forward to going in each day. It's going to take some time before I'm thoroughly familiar with all the computer programs, the diagnoses, and some of the other more technical aspects of the job, but I really believe that this organization gives you everything you need to help you succeed. The only thing I'm not "thrilled" about is the insurance.
Anyone well-versed in affordable health insurance that will allow me to stay with the same medical group I've had for the last 25+ years?
P.S. Anyone have a clue as to how I can get my volume button back on my taskbar?
P.P.S. I really don't like the new version of my Avant browser.

Posted by: sama at October 25, 2004 12:11 PMJust discovered your site, and have been enjoying perusing. For the volume control click Start, Settings, Control Panel, "Sounds and Audio Devices". There should be acheck box there csalled "Place volume icon in the task bar"
Cheers
Congratulations on the new job, and how good it and the people are! You deserve that, all the more given what came before. Good luck, and knock 'em dead! Er, Break a leg! Er, what do you say to a nurse? *EG*

Glad to see the new job is working out!!
I am VERY VERY happy to see you are employed again. I've been quietly watching, praying and croossing my fingers for you.
(I'm the computer science teacher who encouraged you to contact a former teacher about a year or two ago).

Posted by: Kathy at October 26, 2004 04:43 PMGlad to hear the new job is going well. Sorry I have not been keeping up lately. I had a lot of that real life stuff to worry about around here. I have my newsreader working again so now I will see everything you type. Good luck with the insurance thing.

Posted by: Curtis at October 28, 2004 04:31 AMSounds like you're too modest. I bet you have that place wired in a month.
Posted by: PCD at October 28, 2004 03:24 PMAbout the p.s.:
if you are in windows (xp):
control panel -> sounds & audio devices -> place volume icon in the taskbar
it should do the trick
