At Da Goddess's request, and to try and sidestep my Thursday karma, I'm doing my morning blogging here, instead of at my joint.
After reading her views on the debate, it makes me wish I had something weighty or political to say, but I'm a little diffident about the whole thing.
Look at it this way: A President has 4, at best 8 years to effect change. He is further handicapped by being severly limited in what he can and cannot do. Have you ever read the part of The Constitution the delineates the President's power?
I think The Who said it best. 'Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.' No President is going to fix this country because every one of them inheirits the problems of his predecessor.
We don't have a deficit because we're at war. We've been broke for decades now. You want to see some effective change? Give the President line item veto.
That way, when a bill that at it's root does good things, but that some self-serving Senator has attached a rider or 3 to, it will pass, as the President could disallow the crap that makes the bill unpassable.
Oh, I guess I should add that I'm a Republican.
Anyhow, that's just my opinion.
Hope everyone escapes the clutches of Thursday.
El poquito grande,
T.

Change is slow, and you don't often see the effects of the current president until the next one anyway (and then they either take the credit or the blame; and pass it off to the next guy)
I wouldn't mind seeing some improvements to the system though. That'd be nice.
