Debate Chat and Notes

Yahoo: closed

Talking Points:

1) Where's Osama? Kerry doesn't have an answer either. And based on his "plan", we won't have the resources or the will to find him.

2) Healthcare

3) I have a plan

4) Outsourcing - MadMikey reports that Heinz outsourcing 65% of their jobs. Bush gives an answer that was well-thought out, EDUCATE those who have lost jobs....and Kerry tries to use that against him. He gave a real answer and that's not good enough for Johnny. Hmm. The moderator throws it back at Kerry very nicely.

5) Education - Expanding community college opportunities is good. Most people can't afford the big universities. Kerry doesn't like that.

6) Senate Record - Hit it! Hit it! Hit it!

7) Gay Marriage - Neither can win this one. Nobody can. Kerry went south the minute he brought up Cheney's daughter again. And the stale argument of a partner not being able to visit the significant other in the hospital is wrong wrong wrong.

8) Abortion - Kerry's Catholic again. His faith impacts everything he does. Um, okay. He's saying Bush will overturn Roe vs Wade. Bush can't do that. Bush is talking Culture of Life again. Ban partial-birth abortion. Okay. Encourage programs to reduce number of abortions. Good. Always a good thing. Didn't say "no more abortions."

9) Healthcare again - Health savings plan. People tailoring the funds to suit their needs. Generic drugs. Good. Kerry wants Canadian drugs again. Healthcare for all Americans. (Hint, that's what everyone wants. But it's how it's implemented that matters.) From what Kerry's saying, he wants to create the equivalent of WalMart healthcare. He'll have to gut other programs to do this, or raise taxes a lot, and it won't provide people with what they really need.

10) VA - Kerry says Bush cut funding to VA...he actually increased it. (I typed that one before I even heard Bush's response.)

11) Social Security - There is no easy fix. It was broken when Bush got it, it'll be broken for a long time to come.

12) Fiscal Responsibility - there's a deficit because there's a war and because we can't quite keep up with growth.

13) Immigration - Bush wants to secure the borders. Temporary worker card. As long as there isn't an American willing to do the job, the temp worker could do it. Keep those here legally safe at work. Free Border Patrol up for more important jobs, like security. Amnesty - NO! Good! No amnesty from Bush. Kerry off on another topic......finally back on task. Kerry says there's less protection on the borders than before. Actually, we're more vigilant and catching them. That means we're more effective! In regards to amnesty, Kerry wants to give amnesty to those who are here illegally, screw those who have gone through the proper channels and done the right thing.

14) Minimum Wage - Kerry: increase minimum wage! Bush: supported a measure do just that, but also increase educational opportunities to increase skill levels and move people out of the minimum wage bracket. Give them incentive to improve their lives.

15) School Programs -

16) Draft - Increase troops, says Kerry. But HOW??? Doesn't matter, let's attack the President and avoid the question. Bush says, "let's do it right and win the war." The troops only become severely demoralized when they see people buying into lies presented by the VLWC. Yes, that's right. Left Wing.

17) Guns - Kerry's been hunting since he was 12-13 years old. Sorry, skeet shooting doesn't count as hunting. And if you had a choice between Bush or Kerry to protect your family with a shotgun, who/m would you choose?

18) Affirmative Action: Racism, sexism, Clinton. Thank you, Senator Kerry. Bush did meet with the Black Congressional Caucus at the White House. Provide education for everyone....not just the rich white kids....give them the basics and get them higher education and give everyone the opportunity to succeed.

19) Faith - How does Faith influence your decisions? Bush: Faith is personal. Worship or don't, it's your choice, regardless of religion. Faith and religion sustain me. I don't push my religion/belief on others. Kerry: I share his views. Freedom is a gift from the Almighty? That's what Bush said. People from other religions have been blessing me left and right. I won't finish answering the question, though. Thank you. Is Rev. Sharpton or Jackson here?

20) Polarized Nation/Cooperation - Kerry: (Praising Bush momentarily) but let me tell you how he's failed. Secret meetings in the White House. Failing the citizens. Campaign reform. Bush: Work with people to get things done. Teddy Kennedy. It's a time of hard work.

21) Strong Women - Bush: Stand up straight and don't scowl. She speaks better English than I do. (very effective! Even Kerry laughed.) Love at first sight. Kerry: Lucky people who married 'up'....(nervous single laugh) some would say that I really did (definite laughs)....my mom, INTEGRITY INTEGRITY INTEGRITY (oh, now you remember that? NOW??) My daughters keep me honest.

Closing:

Kerry: I can do this. Better. We can work together. I will never allow another country to have veto over our country. As I did when I fought for this country as a young man....Embark on that journey with me. (just don't go to Cambodia if he invites you) Join me so I can correct the error of freedom.

Bush: A painting. West Texas painting. Sunrise side, to see the day that coming not the one that was. That's how I see this country. We've worked to make sure that there are more tomorrows and more promise. Liberty. Safety. Prosperity for America. Asking for your vote.

Debate transcript(s) here.

Great debate! Bush was very effective, warm, and listened to Laura's advice. No slouching and no scowling. Kerry seemed off his game. THK is gonna take the strop to him tonight in the hotel suite. She was none too pleased with his comments about her.

Where Bush was sincere, clear, and concise, Kerry was about as genuine as a $3 bill and about as clear and the water my son and I go crawdad fishing in.

Winner? Bush, hands down.

I bet Mama T was not thrilled with the last answer. "Tell us how much you love your wife, Senator"

"I married her for her money, now let me talk about my dead mama."

She was NOT happy at the end of that.

I wish this election would hurry up and get over with, it really doesn't matter much anyway.
