Paper Moon and Battered Cranium

The Joy of NursingI'm going to moon whoever the first person was to create "New Hire Packets."

I have been documenting my ass off for the last two hours. I know there will be even more come orientation day.

Yes, I have orientation looming. Can we get a "woo hoo" here, please?

I've peed into the cup and the pretty blue toilet water. Been stuck with one needle, surely there will be more for titer checks (there always is!) I've had my tests for color blindness (I'm not), near vision (I aced it!), and distance vision (does it really count if I know the whole chart by rote?) I will be badged early next week. I'll endure eight hours of "lift with your knees, not with your back", HIPAA, OSHA, MSDS, direct deposit, withholding, benefits, infection control, TB mask fitting, risk management, and other organization policies.

Following that, there will be weeks of unit orientation, new skills to be learned, new names and faces to remember, and lots of banging of my head against carefully institutionally-colored walls as I dive head-first into very scary territory.

I can do this. I know I can.

Do you think they're ready for me?

Yes, I have orientation looming.

Do you have to become Oriental?

You can so do this Joan!!Remember it's not just a job ,it's an adventure. The scariest part for me wold be the stupid math test that ask all that stuff you will never need to know or use.As for them being ready for you ,they have no idea how lucky they are!

Wow! Sounds like fun - not! I'm such a nervous bathroom person it takes me forever and a day to pee in that stupid cup! That's the hardest part for me because someone is always on the other side of the door waiting to get in and it puts too much stress on me. Let us know how it goes!

Posted by: yayaempress at October 8, 2004 11:55 AM

Um, not the peeing part. You can keep that part private if you'd like.

If anyone can do it, you can. You've got spunk! My wishes and prayers are with you.

Mikey, well, how else do you explain looking like a Giant Panda (with those BIG DARK CIRCLES under my eyes) or the way I squint all the time?

Good Luck! Remember the first fact of new employment: Start stealing office supplies early. Christmas is coming and a 50 count box of post-its always makes for a good gift. A red Swingline stapler is especially prized.

WooHoo!! Congrats. Just remember that all of the HIPAA answers are common sense except the fines, and those are the largest of all the answers.... :) Good Luck!

Do you at least get paid for your orientation? If your position is union covered, I'd assume so.

I created "New Hire Packets"...now when is the mooning so I can bring a camera??? *grins*

New Hire stuff is fun, if you aren't the one going through all off the crap - I'm just happy you are getting this opportunity...You'll dazzle them.

Peace..PJ

Wow, I really AM behind here. Congrats on the new job -- knock their socks off! What kinds of hours will you be working? Forgive if you've addressed this already, for I'm catching up.

You go girl!

If they are ready for you, you are in the wrong place. NOBODY should be ready for YOU.
Show them the error of their ways.
Lottsa luck, and good for you.
