During the night, someone broke into my car.
Just what I needed. They took the faceplate off the stereo but left the stereo itself. They took a bunch of CDs. They left two lighters and chapstick. I don't consider that a very fair trade.
Posted by DaGoddess at September 20, 2004 03:08 PMSorry, Goddess. This is why I hate people - stealing stuff that you worked long and hard to obtain.
When I was in my internship, someone broke into my car in NYC, stole the radio, and royally screwed up the electronics in the process (which is why you always want to get your radio stolen by a professional). I was trying to live in mid-town Manhattan on 12,000 before tax dollars a year, and had no money to fix the broken window, much less replace the radio. That was the day that I adopted the philosophy that all people are asses, and then get to be pleasantly surprised when I am proven wrong.
Posted by: Neal at September 20, 2004 03:40 PMOH BOY CHAPSTICK!! What nice jerks you can call them nasty names with nice soft lips.
Posted by: karen at September 20, 2004 05:35 PMAnd here I was whining about having a cold... what a bummer. Having anything stolen is just so wrenching. It doesn't even matter if it was valuable or not - it's your stuff. So far I've been lucky in that no one has broken into my car (or should I say hideous "soccer-mom" minivan) . Although someone did steal my son's bike right out of our garage - I made the mistake of stepping inside for 5 minutes without closing the garage door *sigh*. (but that was more than 10 years ago so it doesn't really bother me anymore) Anyway, I hope something nice comes your way soon to make up for this.
Posted by: Teresa at September 20, 2004 06:44 PMHappened to me a while back. We had an LTD (a real boat of a car) with a $20 Kraco (translation: CHEAP!) cassette deck in it. Vandals used a baseball bat (they left it in the car) to break the passenger window and try to steal the cassette deck. They found that they needed a nut driver instead of a screwdriver and used their Phillips screwdriver to poke holes in the dash. Then they used the bat to smash the cassette deck. Pissed me off because the car only had liability on it; nothing was covered - it all had to be covered by ME!
Posted by: BillH at September 20, 2004 09:23 PMwhat kind of dummy takes the faceplate and not the stereo? dumb criminals RULE!
Posted by: girl at September 20, 2004 09:37 PMI have a faceplate on my stereo and it goes right into its drawstring case and into my purse when I go into the house. The faceplace is no good without the stereo. And the stereo is no good without the faceplate.
Maybe the thief had HIS faceplate stolen and he was just looking around for a replacement. Might be why he left your chapstick alone. Hmm.
That is weird. And sad. And crummy. Sorry, Joanie. At least they didn't make off with the whole car!
Posted by: Joni at September 20, 2004 11:44 PMThe whole point of a removable face plate is an unusable stereo...deterrent to a thief. Maybe the turd never had one before.
I am so sorry. I abhor rip-offs.
Posted by: SondraK at September 21, 2004 02:04 AMBleeep! I am sorry to hear this. Know you are in my thoughts. May the perps steal something soon that shorts out in their shorts.
Posted by: Laughing Wolf at September 21, 2004 04:59 AMI think you're offically due for something wonderful.
Posted by: Anton at September 21, 2004 06:33 AMWeird. A friend of mine in California just had her car stolen, but it was recovered via LoJack. The thief took her dirty laundry from the back seat, and left all her CD collection and everything else...
Posted by: David Kilpatrick at September 21, 2004 07:12 AMMaybe criminals should be screened for mental illness and not released until they are cured of their mental illnesses. That would have kept Rodney King in the jug.
Goddess, sorry to hear about your loss. If it is a 96 Ford, I've got a radio I can send you. It just doesn't have a door over the cassette player.
Posted by: PCD at September 21, 2004 07:56 AMI watch CSI all the time; Call a cop and have him collect the items the criminals left behind. You can get prints off the lighter and chapstick, pluss some dna on the balm too if you're lucky.
Why go to extremes for a faceplate and some CD's? Just look at it this way; Maybe they sold those items to get a gun to go on to more real crimes, now that they're recently released from prison. Those pieces of evidence might be what nails them and gets them back off the streets (and out of the voting booths, seeing as most criminals are Democrats.)
Posted by: Thomas at September 21, 2004 08:14 AMJoanie,
I'm so sorry for your trouble.
Sorry for the OT, folks, but you might want to see this. Please pray for the President!
Posted by: Brian B at September 21, 2004 09:11 AMThat sucks :(
Posted by: Ith at September 21, 2004 09:13 AMBASTARD(S)!!
Posted by: Amanda at September 21, 2004 10:14 AMHow awful! Sorry for your loss & your headache. I hope karma takes a big bite out of their asses for you!
Posted by: yayaempress at September 21, 2004 11:23 AMAmanda beat me to my comment. Sorry you're having such a tough time. But look at the bright side.
Posted by: Phil at September 21, 2004 12:43 PMOh...what?
I'm supposed to SAY what the bright side is?
(Damn, this encouraging business is a lot harder than I realized...)
Er, okay. Look at the bright side, Joanie. You've still got all your teeth.
No, that wasn't very good. Let me try again.
Well, look at the bright side. At least now you can't use your car stereo.
Hold it. That didn't even make sense.
How about this: look at the bright side. Bologna sandwiches are yummy.
There. That oughta do it.
Posted by: Phil at September 21, 2004 12:49 PMThat's why I didn't have a car radio for the longest time- I hate chapstick. Will insurance cover anything?
Posted by: Michael at September 21, 2004 05:37 PMGoddamnit. Something has to turn. It's just so unfair that it's going from bad to worse. Surely it's time to start getting "good".
I'm sorry Joanie. This couldn't have happened to a person less deserving of such shit behaviour. Not that anyone deserves it, but you really need a boost right now. Wish I could help. Let me know if I can.
xx
I'm so sorry Joanie, anything we can do? *squishes*
