Do not store your Sour Apple Schnapps in the fridge, on its side, unless the cap is firmly secured.

Of course not!!.. You store it in the door of the freezer resting at a 20 degree incline propped up the last box of girlscout cookies ;)
The same very useful advice goes for cranberry juice. Oh. And bottled milk. heh.
(Hi hon! Long time no see! I've moved house too - yay - if you wanna update me :)
Posted by: goldie at August 31, 2004 03:15 PMdid you say sour apple schnapps? please, please tell me that we can get that up here in canada!
Posted by: munin at August 31, 2004 04:46 PMActually, the thing to store in the freezer at said 20 degree angle is a nearly full bottle of apple wine - not Boones Farm, unless you like the artificial flavor; I used Bardenmeiers. Ones it goes slushy you can strain it and produce "winter wine' which predates brandy by centuries.

I assume this takes advantage of freezing points and works like distillation?

Yes.. its not as effective as distillation (which counts on alcohol evaporating at a lower temperature then water) but it does the trick. Most Schnapps will just pour a little slower and not require ice to keep cold.
Ahh the good old days of being a Rumplmintz inspector at my local bar.
