Excuses, Excuses

Or rather, alibis.

Yesterday did not start out a very good day for me.

I had been up the majority of the night due to the ingestion of slightly more-than-meager doses of Ibuprofen. Well, more than I can tolerate.

I was so sore from fireworks that I needed immediate relief. I took 600mg three times on the 5th. That's at least 2 more times than I should have.

You see, Ibuprofen and I don't mix well. We won't discuss the exact reasons why...just know it's never a pleasant thing in the end.

Pun intended.

Anyhow, the day did become better once I had a short nap and was able to take Little Dude out to lunch. We picked up Mrs. Smash along the way. We haven't spent much time together lately as she's been preparing for a play and I've been busy running around with her husband anyway.

After lunch, we headed back to the Smash abode, where we played with the dog and the cats, painted Mrs. Roosevelt, and generally just sat around and relaxed. (The relaxing part was wonderful, considering my state of physical deterioration - I'm fine as long as I'm moving, but the minute I become inert, I lock up.)

So, anyway, we're sitting there and Mrs. Smash gets a call. It's her husband. They talk for a few moments and she suddenly hands the phone to me.

"Do you want to talk to Roger Hedgecock with me?" Smash asked.

"Uh...sure. Why not?"

And so we did.

Why did I go on? Not only did I want to talk about our success, I wanted to generate some interest in Protest Warrior, patriotism, and being a woman who's Right. (You can take that anyway you'd like, folks)

In general the Right is seen as masculine and overbearing.

The Left is feminine and cozy.

The thing is, me being involved with interviews and such, helps dilutes the Left's touchy-feely maternal embrace angle. I'm a mom, I'm part of the VRWC, and I'm willing to stand up proclaim myself as a proud American.

Guess what? There are more than a couple conservative females in the bunch. But, we need more of us out there. No more of the Left claiming exclusive rights to the "earth mother" image.

Eh, it's a reach, but I'm going there anyway.

I don't want to be the only woman walking the streets with my Protest Warrior friends. Okay, that sounded bad. You know what I mean, though.

The spot on Hedgecock went well. Tammi got a chance to listen in and said we sounded great. I hope so. At least it was radio. And I've been told I have a face made for radio. That was a compliment, wasn't it?

Update: To further illustrate how important it is to be a visible counterpoint to the anti-freedom groups, this was part of their latest e-mail:

The right-wing opposition is showing up in large numbers and diluting our peace message with their somewhat confusing signs and lots of flag waving--they outnumbered "us" on July 3rd 4 to 1 and occupied all 4 corners for a time. (emphasis mine)

Yes, I can see how our signs reading "God Bless America!" and "We Support Our Troops" could be confusing. And they must have missed the part of the day where we outnumbered them 6 to 1. But we NEVER held all four corners at once. Nope. We let them have two. They were the ones who wanted to blend in with us. They diluted their own message by wanting to stand side-by-side with our flags and our "confusing" signs.

If they think that was a large number, they just need to wait. I've got a feeling with all the good publicity you all are getting that the ranks will just continue to grow.

As to the confusing flags and signs, we just need to remember that capital letters and more than 2 colors can cause one to be distracted. ;)

"...more than 2 colors can cause one to be distracted."

They're all over the rainbow with their signs. They just can't seem to handle a certain three distinct colors together.

I went to my Townhall Meetup last night, and as usual, the group was all women, except one. My main topic was Protest Warrior and the counter demonstrations.
