Victory Vigil III

Happy 4th of July! Thank a Vet for your freedom!

Today's Victory Vigil at 10th and "A" went quite well. Over two dozen of freedom-loving patriots attended our rally. The other side had only 4 or 5 people for the majority of the afternoon.

I ended up being interviewed by KSWB today.

On camera, I said something about us being out there, showing support for our troops who are fighting to keep us free.

The camera cut away to show Protest Warriors lining the street with our flags and signs. The voice over, briefly, was me saying, "freedom is a pretty tenuous thing. It hangs by a string."

I can't believe that came out of my mouth. I didn't hear that part of it as I watched...the phone was ringing. I did see the shots of our group, though. We looked great! Flags and signs raised proudly. Smash told me about it later.

We had a wonderful response from the people in their cars. Honking, waving, cheers, and thumbs up signs. We handed out small flags to those waiting for the light to change.

I'd walk up to a car, hand someone a flag, and tell them to have a safe 4th of July. They'd smile and thank me - for the flag and for being there.

One woman cried. "My son-in-law is over there. Thank you for doing this. Thank you for showing your support and your pride."

"Please let your son-in-law know that we're grateful for what he's doing!" I replied. "Be safe this weekend!"

"God bless you!" she said, and she waved her flag as they pulled forward through the intersection.

I handed a flag to one man with a spike through his lower lip. His female companion was driving, two little children were in the back of the vehicle.

"You rock! Thank you!" He was practically gushing. "Where'd you get these flags?"

"WalMart. They weren't that expensive...."

"I have about 2,000 flags and decals at home. Would you like them? Can I donate them to you? I love what you're doing!"

He gave me his card, which I passed along to Smash.

Future Vigils will see more flags and flag decals being distributed to passersby. Spreading our highly overt message of American Pride and Support.

We outnumbered the San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice - by a wide margin. We had families with kids as young as three there. We had retired military. We had guests from L.A., too.

It truly was a thing of beauty.

And Mr. Policy - you rocked! (As always - especially on KNSD's broadcast!)

His wrap up of the day can be found here.

And someone could have joined us for pre-holiday festivities...I think he'd have fit in nicely - especially after reading this post.

Wooohooo! Way to go, lady.

It sounds like you and Citizen Smash and the rest of the Protest Warrior group made quite an impression.

As if we would have expected anything less......

I really wish I had more spare time so I could attend these with you guys. I will have to live vicariously through all of your stories of "the road." Thanks for what you are doing.

I will check back often to see what you're up to!

You rock!

Glad to see you liked my photos from the Dallas Protest Warrior counter-demonstrations (http://www.theartoftheblog.com/the_art_of_the_blog/archives/001069.php).

BTW - I added you to my links so that others can learn about your (and Lt. Smash's) efforts in San Diego. Keep promoting Protest Warrior and keep fighting the good fight!

I posted an item at the Protest Warrios message board some time last semester. I need to go find that comment, and perhaps to participate some more in those discussions.

I was glad to see on their message boards that there seemed to be comments from other conservatives and Republicans who were opposing the Iraq war. I have been covering the conservative, Republican, and military-related opposition to the Iraq war and to the neoliberal, globalist geopolitical philosophy for some time now.

At other conservative organizations, such as Young America's Foundation, they also strongly oppose the anti-war leftists (who are a major liability for the anti-war movement), but some of those conservatives also oppose the Iraq war (though others of them support it).

Protest Warrior contacted our College Republicans chapter last year... If they want to work with us in the future, and our members are interested, then we may be able to do so.
