After I dropped Little Dude off at school, I climbed back in the car and headed home. The radio was on and I was listening to the morning DJs and their inocuous banter. Cut to commercial.
"Waking up during surgery," said the announcer. "It happens more frequently than you might realize. Tune in tonight at 5 to hear a local woman's experience of waking up while under the knife..."
"....I kept wanting to tell them I could feel them cutting me open. I could feel them tearing into my stomach. I could feel it! But I couldn't speak and I couldn't let them know...." said the woman with the quavering voice.
The announcer came back on, "find out how this can happen and how to prevent it from happening to you."
I swear. Someone has a truly perverse sense of humor. They're doing this on purpose. I go in for my surgery next Friday. I've had plenty of surgery before. I know what's involved. I've never awakened during surgery. Ever. Once, when I had my daughter via c-section, I had a few moments where I could feel them digging around, but I wasn't under general anesthetic, so I told them I could feel what they were doing. They gave me a little more medication and that was that. No problem.
Still, did I really need to hear this radio blurb for tonight's newscast?
They need to cut this shit out. Well, not "cut"....but you know what I mean.
I so don't need it.
I have enough to think about before surgery.
Posted by DaGoddess at May 11, 2004 09:28 AMDo NOT watch that tonite. You're right, you have more than enough to think about.
For what it's worth there are many good thoughts coming your way from Tampa. And next Friday you will be on the top of my list.
Sorry you're having to deal with all this. But remember, you are in many peoples thoughts. (in a good way!)
Posted by: Tammi at May 11, 2004 09:53 AMgee, I didn't need to see this either. I go under the knife tomorrow for sinus surgery. I thought you might tell me it was not bad at all!!! BOO HOO.
Posted by: muffetsmom at May 11, 2004 01:53 PMI'd personally be more worried about the other hospital staff getting some free feels of those wonderful, delightful, snuggle-pups.
