Pat Tillman was an inspiration both on and off the football field. As with all who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the war on terror, his family is in the thoughts and prayers of President and Mrs. Bush. - White House spokesman Taylor GrossPosted by DaGoddess at April 23, 2004 09:57 AM
I think the guy next door deserves more attention.I'm sorry, but fanfare over death is disgusting - in any form.

Your comment disgusts me.
Personally, I think it is something to respect. The man turned down a multi-million dollar football salary to serve his country. It really sucks that he died, but he was willing to take that risk. I see this as a tribute to a hero, not a "fanfare over death".
Are you willing to put your life on the line for your country? Speaking from recent personal experience, I can say that anyone willing to sacrifice a fortune to fight in the crappy conditions we have in Iraq and Afghanistan is a far better person than most!
The death of each and every person is a tragic event to someone. What is wrong about remembering the wonderful things that they accomplished in their lives? It's not a celebration of death, but a celebration of that person and their impact on the world.
Posted by: eaglemtnr at April 23, 2004 07:50 PMeaglemtnr - Yes, I am willing. And when I die, the media won't glance my way.I'm NOT glad this guy died.I HATE that ANYONE has to die for senseless reasons such as this.I'm not anti war, not anti religion - but this has turned into a Superbowl halftime show. How many other people can you name that died in this war (without grazing through the ether)?
I'm truly sorry, Da Goddess, for bringing sadness to your site.
Posted by: loiq at April 23, 2004 10:06 PMLoiq - Pat did not die for a senseless reason - he died fighting for our freedom from terrorism. He put his life on the line because he loved the USA.
I suspect that people like Loiq would prefer to live in slavery than to fight for freedom. All of us, even the Loiq's of the world, are free because of men and women like Pat Tillman who are willing to give all for the rest of us.
Posted by: Beth Donovan at April 24, 2004 09:55 AMSorry I'm late getting to this discussion, been busy. But I'm here now.
A lot of people died to give us our Constitution and our Bill of Rights. Our "freedom" if you will. We have more than most any nation in the world.
Terrorists from a very restrictive area (I hesitate to name any country on this one), have, by their acts, tried to take away from us, those freedoms. They do not want us to live free, but in fear. Like the GOOD OLD DAYS.
Tillman is just a man like all the others. Everyone of them that dies, leaves behind a lot of pain and grief that the survivors must deal with. They give up a lot. Their lives.
Pat Tillman is different. More as an example of true heart. He had every reason in the American dream to stay home; money, recognition, his "freedom". He chose to go. To give it all up for what he "believed in". Not as a religious fanatic, or a terrorist. But as a defender, remember, we were attacked first.
Now, THAT is inspiration.
