Seems to me that holding a rally or a protest, one issue should be the focus.
Seems like throwing Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, and the price of tea in China into one big crazy pot of Anti-This-N-That Stew only dilutes one's position.
I see these protests as one arrow trying to hit many targets. Unless you happen to have the Magic Bullet, you can't do it.
Posted by DaGoddess at March 22, 2004 11:28 AMInteresting- I just read another post on another blog about the same topic!
It was
Mike was talking about why people hesitate to get involved- it is because the causes are too complex and built around too many issues
I hope the link worked...

I often wished Americans could live somewhere else for a year, to see how good we really have it in this country. There are so many issues that are far worse in other countries than it is here, but Americans cry the loudest.
However, recognizing my personal feelings, I have often wondered how was it during the Vietnam War protests? Were the youth pretty much the same? We've gone retro in so many ways, not just fashion. But some of those young people who protested and dodged the draft have changed their perspectives as they grew older and responsibilities changed their perspective.
Is it cyclic? I don't know yet-I guess I'll know in another 20 years.

Posted by: Madame Butterfly at March 22, 2004 03:26 PMI witnessed an anti-war...movemenent in Austin last year. The homosexual, transvestite, vegatarian, vegan, cross-dressing, and just about everyone who wanted to say,"LOOK AT ME!!", was out there marching,, holding signs, banners, and themselves.
These people have turned a public protest into the Rocky Horror Picture Show! There was very little union, other than "Lets all be wierd together".How could politicians take them seriosly?
WOW!You really worked me up with this post.

Yeah, they say it's about an issue, but it's really about the protestor. At the very least, they should divide and conquer. There's not power in numbers if the numbers are not focused.
