Sometimes you see something that makes you stop dead in your tracks. There's this car in the parking area near the condo...it's shocking enough for me to see this car still on the road...it's even more shocking when you see it in its entirety. (Yes, this means click on the image for more.)
There are just some things that you don't expect to see after their expiration date. I think the vehicle and the bumper sticker both qualify.
Posted by DaGoddess at March 14, 2004 07:12 PMNooo way! They were out of style when I was in high school 20 years ago! Was it truly someone's mode of transportation?

They were made from 1975-1980. The darn thing is at least 24 years old. Look at the lack of rust and the condition of the bumper sticker. It must have belonged to somebody who just got out of prison.
Hey, I liked Carter! I would happily drive around in that vehicle--it looks like its in pretty good shape. *grin* I hope your sinuses are being kinder to you.
Posted by: Katlinel at March 14, 2004 09:14 PMthat is a classic car now. wow. there are still some of those around...
When I was in high school my mother wanted to buy one of those new (yes, I said NEW).I told her I would run away if she did.I meant it.Could you imagine your friends seeing you in THAT?
I doubt Jay Leno ownes one, either.
Hmmm... perhaps the car has expired. After all, it's got no rego plate.
Posted by: Rae at March 15, 2004 02:20 AMYeep! Back in 1980 (ahem), our receptionist bought one. It was really pretty, it was maroon with white trim and white vinyl interior. She took good care of her car, but no matter. Even new, it insisted on leaving her stranded on the side of the road on more occasions than one. (Take it from me; I had to rescue her -- in my 1978 Honda Civic no less!)
Yeah, this needs to go in your future post: Things From the 70s We Are Better Off Without. And that would probably include Carter too! {{snort}}
Posted by: Joni at March 15, 2004 06:07 AMThat brings back so many highschool memories. One of my best friends, Larry, and his twin brother Terry both had AMC Pacers. Larry was a goof, but Terry was the ultimate nerd. Those poor guys caught all kinds of crap even before they got the cars. After, it was worse.
Posted by: Tina at March 15, 2004 08:21 AMthose beasts reminded me of a pregnant ford pinto - and i hated pintos!
Posted by: PJ at March 15, 2004 08:37 AMThe sad thing is, the lack of a license plate (and the temp reg sticker in the window) suggests that someone just BOUGHT this thing!
Posted by: Mrs. Smash at March 15, 2004 09:22 AMHey! That's my friend's car from high school! Really. The exact one!
Posted by: Kelly at March 15, 2004 09:53 AMOMG!!! I thought they rounded up and destroyed all those rolling plate glass windows years ago. I think Nader even had a hand in the canceled production of those things.
Now the Gremlin, that had class. First one I drove in had a 327 in it, with a 4 speed manual tranny, FACTORY BUILT.( I won't give the specifics as how this came to pass). But it was awesome.
Hee hee :) Thanks for the first smile of the day.
Posted by: geena at March 16, 2004 07:29 AMI was the proud owner of an AMC Spirit for several years. My grandparents bought the car new and I eventually inherited it. It worked great for a long time until its eventual death in 1995.
OK, granted, it was poorly designed. That
doesn't mean it's not a total collector's item
right now- jeez, can you imagine the cash that car could bring
in, in a few years more, with not too much more
than a spit-shine?
I still have an Anderson '80 sticker someplace.
