Okay....Maybe Not

Crap!

(Sanitized for your protection. The real horror is below.)

Holy Fucking Crap Shit Fuck Piss Damn Crap Crap Crap!

I can't even have plumbing problems that are a euphemism for something else. No. I have to have real, true blue plumbing problems.

We have water coming up from down in the pipes in our bathtub and shower.

Can I find a landlord at the moment? Nooooooo.

Everyone else has left for the aquarium....I'm supposed to be resting up for work. Instead, I'm throwing towels down left and right to hopefully prevent major water damage.

Shit fuck piss damn crap mother fuckin' grrrrrr!

Update: Landlord notified and will be here to take care of the billing. Awaiting plumber. Main drain backups are not pretty. Ever. And this one? It's already flowing enough that it's hit the carpet in my bedroom and in the hallway. I've called work to let them know that I haven't slept nor showered...I really can't not be there tonight. We're busy as all get out. Can you say Happy New Year? I knew you could.

Updated update: (Let me pretend you care...mmm'kay?)

Water, water, every where,

And all the boards did shrink;

Water, water, every where,

Nor any drop to drink.*

Landlord's been here. Plumber's been here. The entire group of buildings that use this drain are screwed. The plumber's coming back with MORE stuff. I don't care. My carpets will be cleaned on Friday. I will be looking for a nice quiet place to sleep. And, someone else is going to have to do the towels that are now soaking up all that yucky water.

* Pretend you're literate and know what that's from.

Oooo, nasty. Been there. Hope you find your landlord before they have a lot of repair work to do. Opps, sorry, I remember the way repair work gets done there. Let's go back to "Oooo, nasty".
Luck to you.

Dang that sucks. What a shitty way to end the year. Here's to 2004 starting better for you!!!

Joanie, I wish for you and yours all he best for 2004. I'm actually ringing it in with the the bloody pager at my side, so I can't have more than two drinks. I guess if anything 2004 will start with me being sober.

Been there. Sucks royally. Tomorrow WILL be better. That's a promise!

"The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" by Coleridge. I'm not illiterate, my parents were married before I was born.

What a sucky way to end the year. Hope tomorrow's better.

So long to 2003 with that tale! Happy 2004!!

The new year's door? We've stepped through. Let's hope the sewage doesn't too.

Hopefully this episode isn't a precursor to how the new year will turn out!

Posted by: Bogie at January 1, 2004 04:06 AM

Have been there before as well...nasty business. Hope you are able to enjoy New Year's Day....

Well, I've been waiting to see how the drain backup went, and nothing - so now I'm worried about ya!
We had a sewer back up into our house last year, it truly sucked, and we are still replacing flooring, etc., from it - the City of Leavenworth is paying for it because it was their part that backed up into our basement!

If you need anything, please holler!

Posted by: Beth Donovan at January 1, 2004 04:13 PM

Bummer! Look at it this way - what if it was your own home that you owned - then you would have to pay for all that plumbing work and carpet cleaning. Been there, done that. Not fun.

It has to get better in 2004! Happy New Year Joanie to you and your family.

Hope 2004 is better than the end of 2003.
At least the landlord and plumber came eventually.
Have a great year.

Posted by: Ciya at January 1, 2004 05:22 PM

Had that happen once cost me $400 but I got a "one year no shit in the basement guarantee " from the plumber. I figured it was cheap considering that there literally were floaters on the floor that he and his assistant cleaned up. Hope your year starts getting better ASAP. Rey

Perhaps you had the fan on and it was drawn to it?
Hey, you started it with your obscure literary-ness, lady. :) (which I knew, btw, shockingly).

We all survived.

Thankfully, I escaped to work. The rest of the family had to endure...suffering silently.

Pretend I wasn't a little snippy at the end of this post, okay? That was lack of sleep yakking.

Sorry about that.

Holy crap -- literally. Glad things are better now, and hope 2004 starts off with a much smoother ride! Happy New Year!

Posted by: robyn at January 2, 2004 01:12 AM

The good thing (find the positive in your negatives, a friend of mine always told me.... smart woman, she is) is that you rent and it's all on your landlord's tab.

Damn! someone beat me to the "Rhyme..." thing... I wanted to prove how well-read I am... heh. Funny thing is, I first learned of that poem from an Iron Maiden song, then got obsessed with it. It's still on my top-five all-time literary works. In case you care.

Happy New Year to you and yours... judging from the posts since this one, it's gotten MUCH better.
