Guess it's time to welcome our new leader, Governor Schwarznegger Schwarzeneger Schwarzenagger Schwarzenegger. Can't wait to see all those cute little school children trying to spell that name. What the hell. Why not? For the first time, ever, I think, we have a governor who will be entering office without aspirations of fame (who's more recognizable than Ahnold?), money (he's worth $800 million), power (he possesses plenty of that already), or looking to the White House as his final destination (not a natural citizen, so it's not gonna happen.) Maybe for once, we'll have someone in office who knows our Constitution better than any politician in this position before him. Maybe we'll have someone who truly wants to do what's in the best interest of the public. We can only hope.
The California Nurses Association backed Davis. But, I'm not inclined to be defined solely by my profession. I couldn't vote for Davis based on their recommendation alone. No. For me, I took the mom side of me to the polls, along with the tax-payer, the consumer, and the part of me that recognized how much we needed someone in office who wanted this position for reasons other than it being a stepping stone to something bigger.
With Arnold, we might just get that. For once, I feel that we have a chance to be what we once were. A state that wasn't firmly entrenched in feel good, PC, "let's try this", "what's in it for me" politics. There's a real chance now for our state to rebuild itself and become more. More than the current state of affairs would have us believe we can achieve.
It won't be easy. A hole this deep takes time and effort to fill. With the kind of muscle, figuratively speaking, that Arnold has, it's possible. I do believe he's in this for all the right reasons.
The next several months will definitely be worth watching.
Posted by DaGoddess at October 8, 2003 08:42 AMI was wondering, on my blog, how Arnold and Cruz will get along. You live in California. Does Cruz have enough power to be a pain-in-the-ass?
Posted by: Mike at October 8, 2003 11:18 AMI don't live in CA but I would have voted for him. I think he will do a good job for the state.
Posted by: sonia at October 8, 2003 12:39 PMHeck, there's only one direction to go and that is UP.
Posted by: sugarmama at October 8, 2003 01:34 PMJust call him The Schwartz.
Posted by: inkgrrl at October 8, 2003 02:03 PMsomehow i was surprised to hear that he won, which is weird because part of me was expecting that he would.
it's going to be interesting to see what transpires in the next few months.
Posted by: munin at October 8, 2003 03:30 PMI didn't vote for him, but now that he is the Governor I wish all the best for Califonians.
I heard on the News that some Republican Poliatician wants to repeal the Amendment that states a foreign born US citizen is prohibited from running for President.
Arnold is a very ambitious guy. I saw his bio yesterday, and I admire his motivation and ambition. It would not surprise me in the least, IF that amendment were repealed that he would run for the office of US President. Heck I'd vote for him if it turns out that he does well for California.

Posted by: Peach at October 8, 2003 06:46 PMThe Dems were saying the same nonsense when the current governor of Mich. was elected.
There are two chances of that happening, little and none.
Getting the constitution ammended these days is almost impossible.
Very interesting, I hear his name, see his photo and 'the terminator' comes to mind... oh, what about 'Twins'... It is hard to break some images from the mind. So, if he is a combo of those two roles that come to my mind in real life he'll make an awesome politician! Morals and fighting power!
Posted by: Desiree at October 8, 2003 10:24 PMI don't know a whole lot about y'all's situation out there, but it doesn't sound like there's any way to go but up! Good luck with the Terminator.
Posted by: TW at October 9, 2003 08:11 AMJoanie! You bring up such good points in your first paragraph, some things which had not occurred to me. Good show.
Can you imagine the first time he denies clemency for a death row inmate? "Hasta la vista, baby". Oh, I know it's awful, but it sprang to mind.
I like Arnold, however, and think along the same lines as you.

Posted by: Ren at October 9, 2003 07:24 PMI'm hoping his school visits replicate Kindergarten Cop.
Posted by: Velociman at October 9, 2003 07:32 PMI think it will make life a lot easier if everybody just refers to him as Arnold.
Thanks for all your recent comments. I have a lot of catching up to do myself now that the computer has finally been restored.
Posted by: Dr. D. at October 9, 2003 07:52 PMAbout the California Nurses Association - they have supported people, including Grayout, and issues I could never support. The CNA has gotten too political for my taste and I'm not sure they really represent that many nurses' viewpoints or interests anymore. But that's just my opinion.
Posted by: suzi at October 9, 2003 10:06 PMGood observation! I hadn't thought about it that way.
I was impressed with the fact that he made his first million in real estate.
And by the fact that he was told that he would never win Mr Universe - let alone 7 times.
Definitely determined and doesn't walk away from a challenge.
Posted by: GrumpyBunny at October 10, 2003 09:34 AMThat's a pretty good picture of Arnold.
I prefer the Arnold of the 70's with his mop-top hairdo, his homemade t-shirts, narcissistic tendencies, and a nice fat doobie to "keep his appetite up".
We're doomed.
Posted by: glenn at October 10, 2003 12:59 PMGreat pic! Der Gropenfuhrer looks almost human! But I can see the titanium glowing underneath the ersatz skin.
This is going to be so fun when he blows into Sacramento and starts kicking tail.
Posted by: Velociman at October 10, 2003 05:02 PMI wish you folks in CA all the best. The choices really sucked as far as I'm concerned.
As for Arnold having no aspirations for the White House, I wouldn't be so sure about that.
Senator Hatch has already been trying to build support for passing an amendment that would allow naturalized citizens to be eligible to be president. I find it unlikely that Arnold is not familiar with that.
