There's something terribly wrong with some people.
Police said Stacy Lynn Gilligan was intoxicated when she was taken by ambulance Saturday to Glens Falls Hospital, where she gave birth to a baby with a blood-alcohol content of 0.18 percent.
What the hell was she thinking? Easy answer - she wasn't. She's probably never given a thought to the baby - since the baby was conceived. How much would you be willing to bet that she was drunk then, too?
We've known for 40+ years that alcohol consumed during pregnancy has implications on the unborn. It's not like this news to anyone.
What really chaps my hide is that only misdemeanor charges were filed against this idiot. She deserves a much more severe punishment because that child will be suffering the effects of the mother's behaviors for its entire life. That mother should be shot.
Thanks go out to Jodi for finding this and sending it my way.
Posted by DaGoddess at October 3, 2003 08:46 PMYou can be assured that the baby, which will likely suffer from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, will wind up being a burden on the taxpayers of your state for the rest of its life. Behavior problems, retardation, criminal behavior, health problems... This kid will carry Mama's dumbass decisions around its neck like the proverbial albatross.
Posted by: David Kilpatrick at October 4, 2003 07:38 AMMaybe intoxication was why the mother didn't think of abortion? No, I'm not PRO-abortion. But sometime a story such as this does give me pause.
Posted by: Indigo at October 4, 2003 08:02 AMI used to have a 15-year-old boy with FAS living next to me. That kid was whacked. Strangled my cat. Couldn't prove it, but I know he did it. His momma should have been shot.
Posted by: Velociman at October 4, 2003 10:46 AMMisdemeanor? That is unfathomable seems like the system would want to at least lock her up for awhile.
Posted by: Dale M. at October 5, 2003 03:35 AMGrrrr......the child should have been taken away the moment it was born and given to a loving family who would actually raise them appriately. Some people do not deserve to be parents!
Posted by: C.C. at October 5, 2003 04:16 AMIt really makes me ill to know that there are a lot of those 'Mothers' out there.
These women should be sterlized after the first mistake they make.....and those babies should definitely be given away to loving families who really deserve children.

Posted by: Peach at October 5, 2003 02:18 PMI think the Mother should be punished by forcing her to work the most menial government jobs to pay for the care of her offspring while simultaneously being forced to provide that same care herself. (Both forms of force would need to be supervised by a corrections officer to ensure that she was performing both functions as sufficently as required.
While I'm a big fan of less government involvement, there are some cases, like this, that require someone be put under the microscope/thumb of society for the betterment of the collective.
Posted by: Thomas at October 5, 2003 02:33 PMRaising a child with FAS is a pretty bad punishment. And she will be doing that for the rest of her life. Life in (proverbial) prison.

Posted by: sugarmama at October 6, 2003 01:23 PMShe should be forced to have her tubes tied. She looks like a stupid bitch in the picture.
