The Truth About Cats...

For Sam.

Once upon a time we had two cats. Fixed and declawed cats.

They were big orange marmalade felines. Technically they were my sister's cats and we were only boarding them at the time, but being family, we claimed them as our very own.

Red and Radar would sit outside, next to gopher holes, and wait. For HOURS.

Eventually, a gopher would pop its head out and the cats would take a giant swipe, stun the gopher and carry it to the dog house. There, they'd place the unconcious rodent inside and sneak off to the bushes. And they'd wait.

At some point, the dog would want to be let out. She'd head outside and check the horses and the flowers and the woodpile. Two minutes after she began her exhausting rounds she would head for a nap in her house. Now, being part Dobie and part Rhodesian Ridgeback, she was a tall dog. She'd have to kinda hunch her shoulders and slip into her house. Gingerly, she'd start to enter the dog house. One paw in. Fine. Second paw, on the gopher. She'd jump up - startled, bang her head on the top of the dog house, skitter off, and whimper. The cats would sit in the bushes, point, snickering at first, and finally guffaw aloud at the dog who fell for the trick - AGAIN.

Cats can be cruel and evil, but let me tell you.............dogs are just as bad. But, that's a story for another time.

Cute story! I know, dogs can be cruel too. And one good thing about cats is that they atleast cover up their shit. Dogs will just crap anywhere, on your front porch, in your yard, in your neighbors yard. We've had more trouble with the next door neighbors dog leaving his dumps all in our grass than we've ever had with Winkie. I guess the whole bird thing just freaked me out and if I get a dog and he brings a gopher to the front door, dead, I'll think the same of him as I did the cat. Oh, the animal life. Maybe I'm just not ready for a pet. :)

I have always been lucky with cats. Of course they were always indoor cats, except for the balcony.

Sammie and Zeena are the best companions...I love them to pieces....

But I don't think cats and dogs are intentionally 'cruel'. They don't have the emotion range that humans do. They go mostly by instict. Whereas humans can be pretty bad.

Man's inhumanity is so much worse than any animal could possibly be.

Sorry for the philosohpical rant.

Dogs sure can be evil, like the time when I dropped my toothbrush right after I got out of the shower. My dog saw me bent over and rushed up and mounted me. Being slightly damp from the shower, he had no problem taking me. He kept screwing me over and over, his claws scratching my back. When he finsihed and finally let me stand up, I knew what I had to do; I drove him straight over to the vet's office...

And had his claws trimmed.
