I Spy

Through the tops of the trees I saw a man out on the path blowing bubbles. Was this some zen exercise? An attempt to relieve the stress of his day? He looked so very much a peace as he held the wand in his right hand and the bottle of solution in the other.

Then, I heard soft giggles from somewhere over to the right. Obscured by foliage, I could hear, but not see, a child. He said a few gentle words of encouragement. The tiny voice continued. The man waved his hand in a come closer motion. A girl ran into view, carrying a rather large plastic princess wand.

"Daddy, it's not working," she said as she held it up for his inspection.

The man crouched down and took the fuchsia scepter. He took a few swipes at the air with it. Determining that it was, indeed, not working, he unscrewed the top and poured more of the mixture in. He carefully placed the top of the wand back on and swiped it through the air. Bubbles flew out, much to the delight of the little girl. Laughter rang again.

He stood again and began to blow more bubbles. From off to the right came another voice. Smaller than the first one. A tinier version of the other little girl arrived on scene. She held her identical wand up to her dad.

The Prince of Bubbles went through the same motions as he filled her wand and made sure it worked. The mini princesses still couldn't get the wands to work on their own, though. More a lack of strength rather than a lack of bubble solution.

The trio went through the exercise a couple more times. Soon the girls were running and waving wands, bubbles trailing. The Bubble Prince laughed and ran behind them, chasing the girls, popping the bubbles. No worries greater than the largest bubble.

I wanted to go and run and play with the girls and thank the dad for being the kind of man who would give his daughters an afternoon of bubbles and patience. I wanted to capture that moment in time forever. A moment when everything else ceases to matter and all that's important is making a couple of princesses smile.

Yes, Im doing the Cuban thing and bringing the whole family along.
You know, my dad never really had the time to play that often with me but my grandfather did. And regardless of the game, whether it was checkers or baseball or tossing pennies closest to the wall, the key ingredient was always patience.
Very nice piece Diosa.
