It Pains Me

Let it be known, henceforth, that I am no longer never was willing to be inundated with ill-conceived political messages in my e-mail. I will post similar e-mails here for all to see. I will publicize your e-mail address. I will ridicule you.

My e-mail is personal, private, and for me to use as I see fit. You may not use this to send me unwanted political, business, or any other solicitations based on previous spotty personal communication. I find it very distasteful to have my address, which has been obtained for personal reasons, used to promote some political agenda. This goes beyond poor form. It's rude. This is begging for a beating.

The worst part of this whole thing is that I never once indicated to this man, whom I'd met for ONE beer (many months ago), that I was against the impending war. In fact, I don't recall a single e-mail inquiry from him regarding this either. He kept my e-mail address, which was given for personal contact rather than political, and used it for a purpose other than the way it was intended. So, as far as I'm concerned....it's open season!

It\x{2019}s pretty clear we\x{2019}ve been had. There are no \x{201C}WMDs\x{201D}; never were, never will be. (At least not until the LAPD gets over there with some throw-downs.) While the brave men and women of the military are fighting and dying in Iraq, the Bush administration is rewarding veterans with an $800 million cut in benefits. While the Whitehouse forces democracy on the Iraqis, Ashcroft\x{2019}s DOJ is stripping it from Americans. While millions of workers watch their retirement funds vanish, Republicans grant major corporations tax rebates. I\x{2019}m disgusted with the media depicting war as just another major sporting event complete with Clear Channel-sponsored pep rallies.

Okay, keep your arguments straight here. You've muddied the water so much that one can't be sure exactly what you're ranting about. Were you against the war? Against Republicans in general? Against the media depiction of everything since September 11, 2001? Be CLEAR in your message. This is just jumbled thinking.

The arrogance, ignorance, and greed of this administration have turned the world against us. We are now seen as an aggressive, imperialist nation hell-bent on picking up where the crusades left off.

Sure, we're seen as an aggressive, imperialist nation by the three countries who really didn't want us to go to war against Saddam Hussein. Seems to me we had far more support than you're willing to acknowledge. But, were you to acknowledge that the majority of the world supported our actions, that would completely ruin your argument. Wouldn't want the facts to cloud your "truth", would you?

So it\x{2019}s time to get off our butts and get to work. The next Presidential election may very well be the most important in United States history. If we don\x{2019}t put a Democrat in the White House in 2004, it\x{2019}s very likely that we will see the fall of constitutional democracy and quite possibly civil war. I don\x{2019}t say that lightly; America right now is very much like Germany in the 30s, but unlike Germany in the 30s, we have the advantage of history to learn from and the Internet to organize. I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!!

Ah...yes. Back to that old Nazi comparison. Try a new approach. We didn't buy it BEFORE we went to war and it ain't working now that we've been successful in liberating Iraq. And, guess what? I'm working! I'm working to support the efforts of the men and women defending our freedom and the freedom of others. People who've lived under horrific conditions for more than 40 years. Afraid to glance the wrong way, say the wrong thing, and afraid to make any move to think for themselves.

Your rhetoric is stale and unfounded. I suggest that you do some research and learn to open your heart as well as your mind when you spout this type of drivel. Find yourself a former Iraqi citizen and ask them WHY they now live here, what they experienced living in Iraq. There are over 40,000 Iraqis living in San Diego county....c'mon. I dare you to face reality.

So I\x{2019}m supporting Howard Dean and asking you to please help out by attending a fundraiser for his campaign. Yes, it is a fundraiser which means bring your checkbook. It\x{2019}s not going to be one of those $1000 a plate dinners like the Republicans have; this is fifty bucks. We\x{2019}re talking beer and sandwiches; a few hours\x{2019} pay to help save the country\x{2014}-I call that a bargain. The event is this Saturday, April 26 at 5 p.m. at a home in Rancho Santa Fe. For more information, or to RSVP and get directions, write to sandiego@deanforamerica.com.

Oh. So this isn't really about Iraq, people living in unbearable conditions, truth, reality, or anything remotely related. This is just your chance to send me CRAP and try to enlist my help.....no, my MONEY....to elect a Democrat of your choosing.

Visit Howard Dean\x{2019}s website at www.deanforamerica.com. And if you would like to get involved, meetup with other local Dean supporters at www.deanforamerica.com/meetup

Maybe I should let him know what a bonehead you are and how you're hurting his chances. If I really wanted to know more about potential candidates, I would be able to find this information on my own. I wouldn't need some frustrated pinhead like you telling me where to go.

Thanks for your support!!

Uh, yeah. Right.

Not important enough to garner a single capital letter for your name, eh?

P.S. Please pass this along to anyone else who you think may be willing to help.

Well, I'm passing it along. I just don't think you'll like the help you'll be getting from me.

Look, in all seriousness.....I believe in your right to say whatever you'd like. I believe in your right to protest against war. I believe in your right to protest the spreading of democracy and freedom. I believe that our country was justified in its efforts to liberate Iraq. I believe in the right to not receive e-mails begging for political support from someone who rated a single drink with me. I also believe you're an asshole.

Most of all, I believe in this:

Right after I asked him to remove me from his "mailing list"....I received this.

And, yes....the typos are all his.

help get bush out in '04

I thought you'd like to see this. MoveOn.org is starting to get a campaign organized to defeat Bush and the Republicans in 2004. The Republicans are already well under way in their re-\x{201C}Selection\x{201D} effort; in 2004, we cannot afford to loose.

Dear MoveOn Member,

The war in Iraq is over; the U.S. occupation of Iraq has now begun.
In an unnecessary war, victory is never sweet: American soldiers,
Iraqi civilians, and Iraqi soldiers lost their lives in a conflict
that never should have happened. That's not victory, that's tragedy.

The hawks in the Bush Administration see this as a vindication of
their belligerent world view. Never mind that we haven't found any
weapons of mass destruction; never mind that Iraqi democracy (or even
security) is nowhere in sight. The hotter heads have prevailed: pre- emptive unilateralism is now the official policy of the U.S.. Vice
President Cheney, Secretary Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and Richard
Perle are now thinking even bigger about the "projection of American
power." In the chilling words of a senior official close to the Bush
administration, "Anyone can go to Baghdad. Real men go to Tehran."

Folks, we just have to stop this madness, and there's really only one
way to do that: We need to throw these bums out. The good news is that
over the last few months, we've built a base that just may be large
enough to succeed. MoveOn's total membership is now over 1.3 million.
We've taken out ads, written letters, delivered mountains of petition
signatures, and taken action in hundreds of cities. And now we need to
turn our attention toward one goal: regime change in the USA, the best
way to repudiate Bush's policy of war.

Are you in? If you're willing to help show Bush the door in 2004,
just click below. We'll count you among the participants in this next
phase of the peace movement.

We'll throw out Bush and the Republicans using every means available:
by registering a wave of new voters, by organizing to make sure they
get to the polls on election day, by raising enough money to compete
with the President's mountain of special interest money, and by
volunteering for political campaigns. We'll make it easy for you to
play a part.

President Bush believes he doesn't have to listen to the American
public -- which, even during war, has overwhelmingly been skeptical or
strongly resistant to the idea of an American empire. He has decided
that his faith in the military takes precedence over his faith in
democracy. The election in 2004 is our chance to take our democracy
back.

Polls show overwhelmingly that American's do not trust President Bush
to revive the failing economy. They're just as concerned with the
Administration's assault on civil rights, civil liberties and the
environment. Last week in New Orleans, Presidential Advisor Karl Rove
said that this will be a "close, competitive" race. If all of us get
involved, it won't just be tight. We'll win.

And that will go down in history. It will demonstrate that we mean
what we say -- that we have the passion and the commitment to see our
approach to foreign policy through. It will demonstrate that
politicians who seek to curry favor through belligerence face
political consequences, and that those who advocate a reasonable,
multilateral foreign policy will be rewarded. And it will set the
stage for an American policy that leads the world into a cooperative
and safe future.

Let's elect a new President in 2004, and put an end to the politics of
unnecessary war.

Sincerely,

--Carrie, Eli, Joan, Peter, Wes, and Zack

Sounds like this guy must have had a few more beers than you if he thought he could get you to campaign against Bush. What did you talk about with him? Good Guy "steve" isn't doing Dr. Dean any favors by pissing strangers off.
On a slightly different note, I hope you don't mind getting e mail at the address link on your site, about things you mention on this site. :0

I think you should have added to your emails back to him the following: "...And did you know that you too can increase your penis size by a whopping 3 inches, making that small pathetic thing you have in your pants a bulging manly spectical, just like YOU make yourself out to be in real life? I just forwarded your name and email address to every one of the spammers that I have on my list for more information on a regular basis!"

Geez, how dare someone do that. I have had a couple of people send me stuff like that from putting comments on my blog. I also had a couple of those kind of emails from ultra religious groups too.

I'm participating in the "Love-In" for bloggers thought up by http://www.snazzykat.com/archives/003601.php#003601 I really liked the idea so I've jumped on the bandwagon.

"I love you" because...you would be someone that if I met in real life I would absolutely adore! Your writing skills and love of your career/patients is really wonderful.

You GO Goddess!!!

What a great policy to adopt...I also constantly get emails from friends and acquaintances trying to get the anti-war types to rally and write letters and crap.

Those emails couldn't be any more misdirected ;)
