PROMPTuesday #22 - Poetry In Motion
Today, write a poem including the following lines in any order:
“I tie a ribbon in a foolish way”
“The delicious fragility of this travesty”
“Where we still laugh and wish”
Da Rules:
- Try to write your entry in 10 minutes. This encourages top-of-mind, primal thinking before the ego and judgmental brain kick in. Just set a timer, make your kid count to 600 slowly, whatever. It’s an honor system. And I trust you.
- Aim for 250 words or less.
- Please have fun. Don’t put pressure on yourself. Together, let’s rediscover the simple joy in the writing process.
- Post your submission in the comments OR post in your blog and leave a link to your blog in the comments.
Deb says no whining about being intimidated, so I won’t. I’ll just grumble quietly.
In a place where we still laugh and wish
For things lost and found
For life and possibilities
We give in to the temptation
To chase our dreams like children
Around my finger I tie a ribbon in a foolish way
A big bow is my reminder
That dreams do not fall easily
Nor do they come true without work or faith
So we continue the chase, like children
So many dreams are dashed
With the careless words
From well-meaning friends and family
They call to us, to save us from
The delicious fragility of this travesty of their disbelief

Beautiful! I don’t know how you do that!!!

You nailed it! You didn’t even blanche at ‘fragility’. Great poem.

Thank you both.
Pam, I don’t even know what it means.
Tins, fragility be thy middle name.

Perfect as always. You’re such a talent.

Did you know that poetry is one of your talents, along with photography?
I think you should do a photography book with accompanying poetry.
Yeah! That’s an idea!
Do it, do it, do it.

The delicious fragility,
Of this travesty of spider’s webbing
That hangs buoyant and bright,
Yet is steel netting,
As if I tie a ribbon in a foolish way,
To remind myself of your love that
I fear is ephemeral
Yet is a rock to rest upon in weary seas
And becomes a haven
Where we still laugh and wish
That these shining dreams
May evolve into a fiercely unyielding
Joy.
(Pardon the uneven pacing, I’m a little rusty…)

Jan, pacing schmacing. I like it. And get this: I almost used ephemeral, too!
Deb, thank you! Can I use Toots and Booger in the book? Especially Toots.
Mami Jen, thank you. I don’t know about perfect, but it was fun to give it a try.

Thank you.
I’m really very humbled that so many of you like this.
I’m so not worthy.

Thank you. I still don’t see it, but I’ll take everyone’s word for it. Besides, y’all did such a good job with yours, I have to believe what you say, right?
