Randomosity

DaGoddess @ 9:21 am

Deb’s taken a very prominent special guest star role on the blog here with PROMPTuesday yesterday and two posts linking to her this last week. This is that second post.

Now I have to tell you ten random things about me.

Hmmm. Haven’t I exposed myself to you enough already? Bwahahahaha! That totally made me go somewhere else in my head.

Okay, here we go.

  1. I always wanted to be a famous singing TV star. I imagined myself as a sort of former Mickey Mouse Clubber who went on to star in her own TV show (kinda like Lisa Whelchel and Facts of Life but with an edge). And I was going to sing with a band like Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. In fact, I wanted to be a part of Fleetwood Mac. Double in fact, I wanted to BE Stevie Nicks. I even had crazy Stevie hair for years. Only problem with my big dream is that I can’t carry a tune to save my life.
  2. I’ve imagined full relationships from meeting to courting to marriage to his tragic death that absolutely devastated me and led me straight into the arms of his brother or best friend whereupon I discover that as much as I loved husband #1, husband #2 was really the one with whom I was meant to spend eternity. And I do all this during the commercial break for Lost or CSI.
  3. To continue on with my imaginary life, I used to want to be on Hogan’s Heroes and be Hogan’s little sister. Most girls would have wanted to be his girlfriend, but not me! I wanted to be his little sister so he’d be super protective of me and then I could fall in love with all his POW sidekicks. I always wanted to be the little sister. I decided it was because I wanted someone to look out for me, to help guide me, you know, basically take away all the pitfalls and potholes in life. A big brother could do that better than a big sister, which I had. So I went through years of selecting the perfect big brothers from TV shows. Went along well with my dreams of stardom, my wish for brothers, my insane belief that I could alter my life.
  4. I used to tell people I was adopted because I was the only blonde and the only one with green eyes in my family. Also, I was really embarassed by how much my dad yelled (the entire neighborhood could hear him).
  5. For someone who considers herself very observant — you know, that artist’s eye crap — I just now noticed a pink house across the street. I asked Little Dude if he’s ever seen it and he said no. Either we have an Oz-type thing going on or the owners just chopped down some trees (doesn’t look to be the case) or cut down a lot of weeds. Or maybe my 30 years of travel up and down this road were complicated by stellar blindness.
  6. I wanted a horse when I was little. I was so horse-crazy it was pathetic. I didn’t get one, despite years of pleading. But my little sister did.
  7. I used to have a ginormous gap between my two front teeth. I desperately wanted braces (I thought they were super cool) to fix the problem. My mom always told me I should be proud of that space because Lauren Hutton had one, too. I was a kid. I had no clue who Lauren Hutton was at first and after I found out, I still didn’t care. Instead of braces, the dentist told me to gently squeeze the teeth together. Over time, it worked.
  8. Little Dude was almost named Andrew. His sister declared he was a boy when I was only about three months pregnant and said he should be named Andrew. My ex and I liked the name, but couldn’t come up with a middle name we liked enough to go with it, so the manager at a Saturn dealership convinced the ex that my suggestion for a name was good. And that’s how we decided on the name we finally chose.
  9. Within five days of being married, I realized the ex and I were probably not going to make it. The palm reading psychic Rastafarian told me to trust my instincts when it came to my marriage and he was right. (He came looking for me after my reading to tell me that my doubts about the marriage were well-founded, that the ex and I were better as friends than a wedded couple. He also told me a few other things that were eerily correct and that no one else knew.)
  10. I have a ghost. Or a spirit. Or something. It’s friendly. And really protective. It’s not the first such entity to make its presence known in my life. The thing is, I really like this one.
  11. When I was younger, to go along with my big dreams of fame (see item #1), I used to pretend to be on talk shows and have imaginary conversations with Johnny Carson. I practiced my laugh, watching myself in the mirror to make sure I didn’t look like an idiot. I sorta did, but mostly because I was talking to myself silently and gesturing wildly, laughing, flipping my hair, etc. I also used to practice my superstar poster poses in my parents’ mirrored closet doors.

Now I’m supposed to tag people to play along. I’m going to pick on the following wonderful bloggers: Pam, Temple, Mrs. Who, and Erin. If I haven’t specifically tagged you and you want to play, please do! And let me know so I can read all your answers.

  1. Well, I’ve always liked you, but I just never knew how much we had in common.

    A wannabe Lisa Whelchel/Stevie Nicks,

  3. Are you sure you want to hear ten random things about me??? I’m random enough as it is.

  4. Oh, crap. I had something to say, but when I saw I was tagged it all went away…! LOL! I’ll work on it… :D

  5. Of course I want to hear more randomness! I crave it.

The saddest part of all this for me was that I started this post the day Deb tagged me and my back situation kept me too doped up to finish until today. The best part, though, was that I had the chance to do a little reflecting and edit out all the truly weird facts I was going to include. Like my camping story.

  6. Despite the sudden mysterious appearance of this post, it was completely worth reading. I’ll work on it. i think, oddly my goals have been very similar for a very long time - but I’ll have some fun with this.

  8. Wow, what an interesting post. I can’t believe that the psychic was right about your relationship. And you have a benevolent presence around you - that must be interesting.

  9. Renee, I think our new friend followed us home from a friend’s house. His place is enchanted, so it makes sense.

I never would have believed the palm reading psychic, but he knew things that nobody else did, including the husband at the time. It was a little bit freaky but not entirely so because this man was so wonderfully peaceful. No way to feel weird for long around him!

  10. [...] Joanie tagged me with Ten Random Things, but I’m really not that interesting, so I may have to reach pretty far back for something worth reading. Unfortunately after 7 years of blogging I think you’ve been privy to all my secrets. [...]
