PROMPTuesday #14 - Use Your Ears
I’m a big fan of using music for writerly inspiration, and so I thought I’d try that here, with you.
To evoke your own inspiration, listen to the song here, then write the pictures that appear in your mind. You don’t need to craft an entire paragraph, although of course you can. Rather, let the images spill from you, write impressions, poetry, vignettes, whatever pops into your head.
Maybe a story will emerge.
(Go to her site for the music.)
No rules today, except two: let yourself go and do it in 10 minutes.
He thought she was the answer to his life’s darkness and rain
He thought she was the answer to his everyday pain
So he reached out his hand and grabbed hold of hers tight
And together they walked into the night
She thought he was the answer to her loneliest days
She thought he was the answer to the blues and the grays
So she took hold of his hand and drew him near
And they whispered so boldly, “there’s nothing to fear”
They thought they were the answer to their complicated lives
But soon they discovered there were more questions than before
For every moment they shared, they still wanted more
In the end they both knew, on that cold December day
The only answer they had was to just walk away
He resisted going back to his tormented life
Though he had been missing his children and wife
She resisted going back to the big lonely home
Though she had started to long for some time all alone
So they said their goodbyes
And they boarded their planes
Returned to the start
With two broken hearts
Both hearts etched with new names
It was harder than ever to just walk away
It was hard to resist that urge to stay
Because
They thought they were the answer
But they both came to know
The only real answer
Was to learn to let go
And there you have it. It’s rough and needs work, but sometimes rawness just…is. Don’t know if I can spend much time with it. Kinda takes too much out of me.
FOR:RAM.

Beautiful! You are an artist, Joanie!
I listened to the song, but what was in mind and heart are things I don’t talk about, let alone put in print.
You aced this one, girl!
