Miss Tori

DaGoddess @ 17:22

From last year.

Cute Tori

I was digging around in my archives for images to work on for my photo editing class (12 hours over two days…that’s a lot of class time!) and found this shot. I love this dog so much! She’s a sweetie pie.

Taken with my 50mm lens. That beautiful creamy fall off is what you get with a shallow depth of field. f 3.5, ISO 100, shutter 1/160th, manual mode (for those with inquiring minds).

BTW, just in case you were wondering:

What’s the difference between “inquire” and “enquire?”

These are two spellings of the same word, which means to seek information about something or to conduct a formal investigation (usually when followed by “into”). The corresponding noun is enquiry or inquiry.

Either spelling can be used, but many people prefer enquire and enquiry for the general sense of “ask”, and inquire and inquiry for a formal investigation:

•I enquired his name
•The first enquiry in my inbox today was about lost property.
•We are going to inquire into the incident.
•The lawyers asked when the inquiry will be completed.

I share because I care.

  1. P.S. The 50mm is dead. DEAD DEAD DEAD. I can’t even use it in manual focus. There’s something broken inside and it rattles if you gently move it.

    :(

  3. that lens died sometime around the beginning of the year I think. I just didn’t want to accept it. I’d force the shit out of it in manual. Finally gave up the ghost. It’s $100 lens. Not a big loss. Just something I can’t afford to replace right now. And it’s a beautiful little lens. The photos I posted of Brad C on facebook were all taken with that lens. It was a 1.8 aperture and it meant I could photograph in very dark clubs with great results. Now I have to pull out the macro and pray it doesn’t go super shallow dof on me (with EVERYTHING out of focus). So I wait and keep putting pennies in the jar.

My friend (sound guy at my fave venue) loaned me his 50mm for the Cain show…walked up and said, “try this”. It was a 1.4 aperture. Got some nice stuff, but the lack of zoom meant I didn’t use it too much. Still, nice lens. From 1.8 to 1.4, the price goes up to about $400. I’d rather have the extra money in my pocket and stick with the 1.8.

Anyhow, between the death of the 50mm and the 35-135mm inconsistencies, I’ve begun to rely on a cheap 18-200mm lens borrowed from MOBD and my 70-300mm that rocks the Casbah so damn hard. Unfortunately, you can’t shoot everything with a 70-300mm and the 18-200mm is sometimes flaky. Oh well, I’m getting good enough images to keep shooting and that’s all the matters.

  4. Such a pretty girl! That sweetie pie killed a juvenile bird this morning. A killer lurks behind those sweet brown eyes! But I don’t think her heart’s really in it. She’s just doing her job, keeping the backyard safe for her autocracy.

  6. Oh no she didn’t, Carolyn! Tori? Really? Our little sweetie who wouldn’t jump over a four inch barrier no matter how much we bribed her? A killer?

Jan, she really, really is. My favorite thing is that she will wiggle out of her skin in delight when I show up, no matter how long it’s been since she’s seen me. Everyone should have a friend like that!
