Two-fer Tuesday

DaGoddess @ 04:00

Pull yer red hair back into a couple long braids, grab a bandanna, a guitar, and tear up your tax forms! It’s Willie Nelson Day!

For those of you playing along at home, you’ll recall my musical choices with my parents. For those new to the game, every morning before school, the stereo would go on. Music was something we all enjoyed. However, we didn’t always agree on what would be considered “music”. Chuck Mangione. Herb Alpert. Linda Ronstadt. Or Willie Nelson. If my dad, who mostly worked nights, didn’t want to hear “that God-awful screeching from that damn Linda Ronstadt”, we’d invariably vote for Willie Nelson. I still like him.

No bonus this week. I’m saving up.

  1. I heard Willie a lot too, even if he was more pop than country to us in the sticks… My Mom and Dad had the country station on in our house most of the time… heck, my clock radio came on in the morning at 6:00a to ‘Yellow Rose of Texas’…!

Now, that I enjoyed. Or I enjoy the memory of it. But it’s no wonder I started listening to classical music as soon as I could… ;)

  2. I could go for a little Herb Alpert. And I don’t mind some Linda Ronstadt, though I do have to overlook her moonbat tendencies. But then again I’m a fan of The Pretenders and Chrissie Hynde, even though she’s a Queen Moonbat. The music is what matters to me.

  3. I love Willie, especially when he delves into Bob Willis territory. That is, after all, where he got his start.

Dave, it IS the music that matters.

  4. Willie’s Stardust album remains one of my all-time favorite recordings by any artist, any genre.

According to Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stardust_(album) Stardust was ranked number 257 on Rolling Stone’s list of the Greatest 500 albums of all time, and stayed on Billboard’s Country Chart from the time of it’s release in 1978 to 1988.

  5. We listened to Willie & Family Live. That was our go to album. I can still picture the album cover vividly.

And I just realized I know what I’m getting my dad for Christmas.
