Today’s Post

Is brought to you by IB at Idiot’s Stew.

I was writing something similar, taking my time in crafting it. Then I read his post and I realized I didn’t need to write anything more than pointer in his direction.

Also, in unrelated news, I am officially cursing and praising school. Praise: I scored some super clean and perfect boxes for my rhinos and other special breakables. Since I lost a big piece of furniture upon which they sat, they must be packed carefully. Cursing them: New shorts for the boy because he grew so much over a two month period that his shorts suddenly didn’t do more than barely skim the top of his knees, which is against the dress code. Instead of calling a parent to bring him a new pair of shorts at a much cheaper price, they sold him $15 shorts. But that’s not the end of it. Not by a long shot. They want us to prepay all his special AVID class field trips, which cost $80. Um, I can’t even pay diddly at this point. (Note to self, call and email the hell out of the attorney’s office all day so we get paid for mileage finally…they’re over two months late with it and nothing’s getting paid otherwise.)

That’s all. I’m off to sleep and then go put 4 hours in at my friend’s business at unofficial minimum wage. It’ll buy us milk and put gas in the car. That’s something.

In the meantime, go read IB’s post.

  1. Attorneys are the same all over – hang onto the money as long as they can. Bummer getting stung like that, I’d offer something but I just got my tax bill …..

  4. “They think I am important, but they act from memory.”

    That line just kills me.

  5. Wha? He can’t wear shorts that don’t touch his knees? And prepay for trips? UH.
Oh gosh. Is this public school?

  7. Last school year, I chauffeured a 13 year old. I was shocked that his school did not seem to have any dress code. It was amazing what some of these kids were wearing. Heck, it was amazing that their parents let them out of the house that way. Lot’s of cleavage, micro miniskirts, Daisy Duke shorts. I even saw a boy one day wearing only shorts with suspenders…no shirt! Seriously!

So I can kinda understand a dress code, but to actually force your boy to buy shorts from the school is unacceptable. I’d think a simple warning would do in that situation. Argh!

I hope things turn around for you soon. I know that it’s little things like that that can really make you feel kicked when you’re down. Hang in there!

  8. yep, public school. And the whole shorts thing? FOR P.E.! Utter bullshit. Then again, he probably could have gotten away with the shorts for one day, but he’s the sort of kid who hates pressure and conflict and does whatever he can to avoid stress. Still, for them to give him crap right away about shorts that skimmed the tops of his knees? It’s not like he was showing his little friends or anything!

There are times when I wish I homeschooled.

The school does have a dress code and they’re pretty strict as far as what the kids can wear in general. The P.E. shorts thing was just stupid though.
