Is It Just Me?

Or is this rather…I dunno…inapposite?

Do you really expect to see such a thing in Alaska?

Philippine Cuisine Fairbanks, Alaska

This makes perfect sense in my neck of the woods. But Fairbanks? ALASKA? Really?

  1. A tad jarring, really. It really *is* a small world!

  2. by the way. they moved that….. I guess there wasn’t enough traffic (although the traffic’s 10 times worse than when I got here) along that road. This monument to free enterprise is now along the main highway between Fairbanks and North Pole. Still haven’t seen anyone give it a try yet…….

  3. See, that does make more sense to move it out along the highway. Where people might actually see it. Duh. But perhaps their original thought was that people would stop and order something for dinner on their way home for work.

    Or maybe I’m overthinking that.

  4. Wow, that’s some juxtaposition. Are there a lot of migrant workers from the Philippines around there or something?

  5. There are two big military bases here and a pretty fair sized population of us old retired farts who decided to stay put after seeing the rest of the world. A lot of them brought Filipino/Southeast Asian brides back, ergo, we have a fair sized group. Just in North Pole (population 1500 or so) there are 4 Asian style restaurants. I’ve lost count of how many are in Squarebanks.

  8. oddly enough, there’s a Korean sushi place in town. Call me weird, but “Korean” and “sushi” are words that should never be used in a sentence that way; neither should “cheesecake burrito” (saw that one last night at one of the Mexican places. It was a mragrita kinda day yesterday)or fish taco.

  9. “mragrita” day yesterday? Sounds like you’re still working on a few drinks, p2. Either that or they were REALLY good!

I know people who love fish tacos. Me? Can’t stand ’em.
