Kinda Hatin’ on Hulu

Da Goddess @ 23:55

I don’t know why, but if I choose a show from my queue to watch, I get a message saying the video is “unavailable at this time”. However, if I choose an episode from the show’s main page, I can watch without problem.

Ever since Hulu went to their new, super sucky layout (which is just a stupid jumble of utter crap), I’ve had trouble finding and watching my favorite shows. They dropped half the shows on my favorites list — no longer do they show up in my queue (like Parenthood is suddenly nowhere to be found unless I go looking for it) — and when they do show up, they don’t play.

Stupid Hulu. Get your act together, people.

Foooood

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I really want a hamburger. Not just any old burger. No, I want a huge burger right off the grill. With crisp lettuce. Cheddar cheese. Maybe a bit of bleu cheese dressing, too. With fries. And then something wonderfully rich and delightful for dessert.

Happiness Running High

Da Goddess @ 01:13

Just enjoying every moment right now.

Getting to spend time with Little Dude and my dad. Hearing stories I’ve never heard before. Finding out things about my family I never knew. LD benefits as well, as he discovers his dad’s side of the family isn’t the only one that has history of interest.

Texted a bit with Mojo. Talked with my mom. Mom’s sick. Mojo’s busy. We’ll all catch up rather soon. I’m good with letting them set the pace.

LD and I went to a play on Sunday and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Our friend sang and I was stunned by her gorgeous voice and her ability to play guitar. I knew she did both, but had never heard either. I got chills. Many of the performers in the cast either played or learned to play an instrument (or two) for the show. IMPRESSIVE! I gotta get me some of that talent!

Dropped off a resume yesterday. Go in for an interview today.

My dad’s bird hasn’t killed me yet. In fact, he seems to grow fonder of me by the moment. He entertains himself by jumping onto my head while I’m on the toilet. It’s funny. I swear, it is. And now he lets me sit on his head while he’s on the toilet. Okay, maybe that last part is made up.

In the meantime, if you’re feeling happy and generous and want to make a donation to my “Gotta Get Dad Eating Better Food” mission, I’m be thrilled. If not, that’s cool, too.

Great, Good, and WTF?

Da Goddess @ 05:21

Great: is helping to bring to light the cost many veterans pay for their service. PTSD is a serious condition that can impact not just the veteran, but the families, friends, and communities around the veteran.

Supporting BattlingBARE.org will help families who are learning to cope with loved ones suffering from PTSD. That’s a GREAT idea!

Good: Chuck Norris is endorsing Last Ounce of Courage, a movie about faith, family, and freedom.

Movies like this aren’t considered ‘fashionable,’ and people are afraid of being jumped on for taking a strong stand,” he said.

But above all, “Last Ounce of Courage” seeks to spark dialogue about America’s founding values, patriotism and individual rights.

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that is what this country was designed around. Brave men and women have unfortunately lost their lives to defend our freedom,” Teague said. “You have the right to religious freedom, the freedom to speak your mind. When that is taken away, what have you got? It would be a pretty grey world. In my lifetime, I have never seen more cruelty directed toward people who speak their minds. This is not the country I was born in, this is not America. And that really bothers me.”

WTF?: Burning an American flag proved fatal for a Pakistani protester, who reportedly died from inhaling fumes from the ignited icon of independence

I guess learning to laugh as someone pokes a little fun at you isn’t a lesson taught in Pakistan. Don’t get me wrong, I think the world has had enough cultural bashing to last us a lifetime, but, c’mon! Christians and Jews and even Hindus have been the brunt of jokes — spoken, written, animated, filmed, photographed, sung, and pranced about on stage — for a very long time. We don’t resort to burning flags and shooting people. (Mostly.) So let’s all put on our big girl and big boy panties and stop being so sensitive all the time. And quit burning flags! It’s rude…and it’s bad for your health.

How Many Songs?

Da Goddess @ 04:30

I trust. I think it’s time. Then it’s not. Then it is again. I trust.

I wait and fidget. Believing it’s real. Worried it’s not. I trust.

So I wait. I think it’s time. And I trust.

Oh! My Nose!

Da Goddess @ 16:12

Okay, so it’s really more my head that hurts, but who can resist Marcia Brady’s football-to-the-nose-cry?

It’s not so much a headache as it is a small headache with a lot of tension surrounding the things happening in my life.

Like, earlier. I fell asleep with the baby and dreamed my arm was being sawed off. I woke up to my arm all twisted around and my shoulder practically out of socket. WTF?

I’m all jittery and skittery. Ready to jump out of my skin if someone sneaks up behind me and whispers “boo”. It’s all good though. It’ll all pay off in the end.

I just don’t like waiting. You know, because the waiting is the hardest part.

11 Years Later

Da Goddess @ 00:01

…and we’ve not forgotten. But we have been healing slowly. Still, we remember and it rends our hearts anew if we think too long or too hard. That’s not a bad thing. It means we’re human. And it means we remain vigilant.

For the first time since I started blogging and posting on September 11, I will not post the songs or videos normally do (not sure where the rest of my archives are). I think it’s time to start looking at this day a little differently. Yes, I still mourn for the lives lost. I still rage against those who would commit such an atrocity. I…just…I want to continue to heal and sing a new song. I think we deserve that, don’t you?

Please take a moment to remember those who died, the lives that were changed forever, and think, too, about what you did this day 11 years ago. If, like many of us, you saw your neighbors in a new light and reached out to strangers or even took a moment to smile at someone to let them know “we’re all in this together”, or even if you did none of those things, try it today. Be a good neighbor. Be kind to someone just for the sake of being kind and creating a little bigger personal community.

What we have in common is far more important than what makes us different.

It is my hope that in the months and years ahead life will return almost to normal. We’ll go back to our lives and routines and that is good.

Even grief recedes with time and grace.

But our resolve must not pass. Each of us will remember what happened that day and to whom it happened. We will remember the moment the news came, where we were and what we were doing.

Some will remember an image of a fire or story or rescue. Some will carry memories of a face and a voice gone forever. ~ George W. Bush

Let’s get on to the “almost normal” while remembering what we’ve lost, as well as what we’ve gained in the years since. We owe it to those who died and to ourselves. We continue on — in their honor.

God Forgive Me

Da Goddess @ 02:55

I am about to leap. And I’m going to grab onto an arm along the way.

My past and present shall collide in a frightening explosion of “OH MY GOD, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?!?”

And then we’ll see what happens in the wash.

It’s Not Unusual, But Really, It Is

Da Goddess @ 00:24

Tom Jones just keeps getting better and better through the years.

I fell in love with him when I was a kid. “What’s New Pussycat” was played repeatedly on my little record player. I’m sure I drove everyone crazy with it. But I loved him so much then.

And I love him even more now.

Exhibits A and B:

And you can hear the version of this last song. If that doesn’t break your heart a little, well, I’d see a cardiologist.
