Home – Yes

DaGoddess @ 17:05

I’m home. Indeed, I am.

But I’m about to run out the door.

I’ll be back later with stories. No worries.

Unless I fall asleep. Which could totally happen because I’m exhausted. In a good way.

I’ll be back.

Sleepless in Portland

DaGoddess @ 14:51

We’ve been sleepless here in Portland…because we’re having so much fun. My friends and I were determined to nap today before we head out tonight, but we’ve been on a musical high and can’t.

Much laughter happening, too. And some fun little things here and there.

Portland may have to forcibly eject me from the city by the end of festival. I have way too much of a good time here!

What Was Going On Last Year

DaGoddess @ 08:00

I had such a good time at the festival last year and I thought I’d post a few shots that reminded me of some of those moments. I’ll post new images when I can.

Making New Memories

DaGoddess @ 08:00

While part of my head is still on a beach in Daytona, laughing at something a bronzed god Tall Dog said, kicking sand in his direction, the rest of me is gearing up for what is going to be a crazy week full of music, laughter, lots of running from stage to stage, and spending time with some of the loveliest people on earth.

I am so looking forward to Portland, it’s not even funny. I have my main gal picking me up from the airport, taking me to do a little sightseeing, and then we have a big ass birthday party to attend for another friend of mine. Then we have four days of absolute craziness at the festival, but it’s the best kind of crazy you can imagine. As we wait for our turn on the photo ramps, we dance and sing and laugh our asses off. Afterward, we decompress with a cocktail or two, telling stories, and laughing even more. And this year? I’m on to that black curb that likes to lurk in darkness. I will NOT fall for its tricks again. (Literally. My knee still bears the scars of that encounter last year.)

I’m excited to see some of the big acts I’ve never seen before, to see some of my favorites all over again, and to basically just drink it all in.

Also, I’m looking forward to some of the bread, the steak, the pita chips (shh), and maybe an elephant ear one day.

Mostly, though, it’s the people. I made such incredible friends last year that just knowing they’re looking forward to seeing me as well makes me very happy.

Only one more day between me and Portland. Just one more day.

If LD Were Photographed By Terry Richardson

DaGoddess @ 01:44

He wasn’t. I did this. Last summer. In a very Richardson-esque manner.

Richardson-esque depiction of Little Dude

Really enjoying my time here in San Diego. I’ve seen Mad Mikey and the whole MM Family, a photographer or two, our dear, dear friends C&R…and have plans to catch up with others before I have to hit the road again.

Got a freaky story to tell, but that’s for later when I have a better internet connection.

So a Blonde Chick Walks Into the Darkness

DaGoddess @ 11:56

Trying to avoid the fireworks crowd and get over to see Curtis Salgado for an autograph or six. In the dark darkness, I didn’t see a ledge. I went falling so hard that my breath was knocked out of me. Thank God I’d put my camera in the bag before my journey otherwise you’d have heard “KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNN!!!” all around the world. The camera would have been shattered. The lens would have been dust. As it is, my wrist was looking scary (things popping out at odd angles) and my one knee was…I’ve seen knees post-op that looked better. Thankfully, I had a couple friends there to take care of me.

And now I’m walking pretty well. Slower, but well. Ice is magic.

P.S. So is the Portland air.

Oatman, AZ

DaGoddess @ 15:04

“Tingalayo” will make more sense when you watch this video. (Photos are still in the works)

The drive from Kingman to Oatman is really breathtaking. Route 66 becomes twisty and turny and is absolutely a blast! Can’t imagine traveling the road in a car with bad brakes or other car trouble, so make sure everything’s in working order before you go.

I heard this one, so you have to hear it, too. It’ll all make sense later. I swear.

Doc’s Orders

DaGoddess @ 02:13

Dr. Joe Early told me to get my kicks on Route 66. So that’s where I’ma gonna go.

After Party

DaGoddess @ 03:54

The trip to Phoenix has been a lot of fun. I’ve taken a load of photos and, get this, managed to whittle night’s photos down to only 56, which is pretty remarkable for me. I didn’t edit any of them, just uploaded to Flickr. Still have over 1,000 from the blues festival and the pre-party on Friday night, but I went the instant gratification route for once.

Have enjoyed my time with Temple and the great dinner and convo with Miachelle, who made a long drive for just a couple hours of visiting. How cool is that?

Wish everyone could have been here. I’ve seen and heard things that will never occur again. Remarkable events. Simply remarkable.

Drinking in Downtown Cocktail Room

DaGoddess @ 03:58

Chic. But dark. The drinks were carefully crafted. No mere pouring. Lemons were hand squeezed as needed. Zest was zested only when called for. Berries mulled by hand. Magic fairy dust was sprinkled in the air or over the counter. I think I saw Tinkerbell float by and giggle at the concoctions. Yes, they were infuse with magic! Ingredients were added slowly. Each drink was a work of art.

Did I mention it was dark? The new 50mm f1.8 lens made these photos possible.

If you come to visit me here in Vegas, I will take you to a fun little jam where all sorts of music is played. Then, we’ll walk across the street and you will be treated to the Cocktail Room, where I’ll buy you one of these drinks. You will then proclaim your love for the drink, the bartender, and finally…me. They’re really that good. With any luck, Cary and a special young lady will be working and you’ll be thanking your lucky stars you got to meet them.

Southward Journey

DaGoddess @ 15:30

Tomorrow I head out to Phoenix for a few days. I’m covering a blues festival for a magazine. Yeah, you read that right. I’m also hanging out with the his own bad self. Maybe I’ll even get to see Miachelle this time around!

Also, it looks as though I may have another shoot while I’m in town there. It could be a very good thing. Very good.

Once again, as I pack, I’m wondering if I bring the laptop or leave it behind. Temple has a computer and I’m sure he’d let me check email. But, what if I need the computer to offload images? What then? Or am I just making this more complicated than it needs to be? All I know is I’m super limited on pain meds and hauling a bunch of extra stuff doesn’t exactly sound fun.

And, is it too much to ask that the rain not fall in AZ on Saturday? I just want that happy little window of dry so that I can properly photograph the bands and the crowd. That’s not a selfish request, is it?

Okay, back to finishing up my laundry and packing and gear prep. So much to do. So very much to do.

Fingers Crossed

DaGoddess @ 04:00

Keeping my fingers crossed for the Smokin’ Knights as they head to Memphis and face 170 other performers at the International Blues Challenge.

And the last one here, well, it’s probably the most artsy of all the shots. Normally I don’t go for these images, but I liked this one for some reason.
