Happy Birthday, LD!

Da Goddess @ 00:23

He’s not little any longer, but he’ll always be my Little Dude.

Happy 23rd!

This photo was taken back in 2010. Can’t believe how time has flown. From this cute kid to a man in what feels like the blink of an eye.

Be Glad This Isn’t The Movie Version

This is our trash bin. The big one everyone uses. This is not the worst of the maggots we’ve had, but this IS close. I’ve never had maggots in or on trash bins until I moved here. I can only think this is due to several factors:

1. We’re rural-ish. Lots of animals and fruit and flies and stuff flies like.

2. There’s dog poo and cat poo and tiny human being poo being discarded. Flies like poo.

3. I’ve found myself in an alternate universe where maggots are everywhere and that’s considered a great thing.

In the past, I’ve been known to wash out the bin with water and bleach. This helps…for a few days. But only a few days. When the landlord’s parents were here, they also went after the maggots. Since then, I’ve seen fewer. Thank God. Maggots make my skin crawl. I’m 100% behind their function and place in the world, but that doesn’t mean I want to see them on a regular basis.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is this: if I have to see maggots, you do as well.

Mr Bluebird…er…Yellowbird Not on My Shoulder

Da Goddess @ 11:34

src=”http://dagoddess.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/0921190800a-500×375.jpg” alt=”Bird” width=”500″ height=”375″ class=”aligncenter size-large wp-image-6740″ />

I found this poor soul on one of my walks recently. I didn’t have much time to worry about things like focus or composition as this was at the side of a very busy road. Basically, what I’m saying is: I’m a daredevil but I’m not a complete idiot. Safety first when out walking.

So, yeah, I found this dead bird on the side of the road and I took exactly two photos of it in between bursts of traffic.

You’ll never hear of me dying for a photo. Not this gal. Unless I die of sheer joy while photographing a concert on my bucket list. I just won’t die because I took some ill-advised risk for the shot. Nope. This is as close as I get.

P.S. if you click on the photo and zoom in, you’ll see the ants had already begun their part in the recycling chain.

TJH: INSPIRE — Whiskers Wednesday – May Day Edition

There’s no such thing as too much Fletch and I realized I’d not posted anything of him since we moved.

He’s my lovely boy. Such a trooper. So sweet. Sometimes an absolute turd. But he’s MY turd. Respect the turd.

“The turd turd turd, the turd is the word…”

Anyhow, enough of that. Please admire the whiskers.

TJH: Inspire — I Love Tim Minchin

Da Goddess @ 18:19

Minchin on his hit musical, Matilda:

They didn’t have to think about creating a show for children because the whole point of Matilda (and all of Roald Dahl’s work) is that the child in all of us is still alive, he says.

“That’s kind of what Matilda is about, not letting adulthood turn you into a cynical despot.”

Everything I’ve seen about the show makes me wish I could see it in person. I’d settle for a televised performance, but to see it in person would definitely be much more impactful.

TJH: Inspires — It Speaks to Me

Da Goddess @ 22:23

I have loved the series Ride with Norman Reedus. Loved. It.

I don’t really watch The Walking Dead, but LD does. I’m familiar enough with Reedus through that as well as some of his movie roles. I think I just missed the boat on TWD and kind of feel like I’ll catch up on it eventually. It’s not a big watching priority right now. I do, however, like watching (and make a habit of watching) shows about people exploring the world around them. So, Ride fit into my viewing queue beautifully.

The season finale was tonight and featured Peter Fonda. I was trying to hold back the tears by the end of the episode. Perfection.

I’m kinda crushing on Norman after this. Much in the same way as I crushed on Ewan McGregor after watching his Long Way series.

But back to Reedus. In addition to his exploration of his surroundings, he’s constantly photographing what he sees. (I don’t know anyone like that. Do you?) And he has a book* of his photography, which I want so badly! It goes on my wish list immediately.

I hope you can find the series somewhere, watch, and fall in love like I have. I think it’s highly likely you will.

TJH: Inspire – Ode to Joy

Da Goddess @ 08:12

Tis the season for joy, is it not?

Yesterday, while baking cookies with King Arthur’s daughter and grandkids, I’d noticed something interesting: an upside-down candy cane cookie was right next to a wreath cookie, which was next to a mitten cookie. Looking at the way they were laid out there, it read “Joy” to me. Everyone else came over to look and they saw the same thing. It was appropriate for the occasion, as well as for the season.

Which brings me to my next bit of joy: my kids.

Mojo was down from Fairbanks the 2nd-9th. We only got a bit of one day together, but it was wonderful to see her, AND LD, again. Yes, they both met up with us at a little place down Temecula way. I’d told them we were going to do some photos for Grammy and Papa and they were cool with that. Here are a couple shots from that day.

TJH: Inspire – Faire Prep, Spring 2015

Da Goddess @ 02:16

We leave later today for faire. Part of my faire prep includes going through photos from last year to get in the mood.

First up, we have King Arthur with our friend from another guild. I have no idea what KA’s looking at, but I had to get a shot of him with the collar he received upon being knighted. He rarely wears it (don’t know why). I think it suits him well.

King Arthur aka Captain and Brent

During Spring, we get horses at faire. I’m not sure why they aren’t there during the Fall, but I’m always excited to see them. Both are black and very tall, sturdy steeds. Our buddy spent a good 15 minutes nuzzling the one horse and the affection and interest looked to be mutual.

Brent with the black stallion

Brent's buddy

This next little guy, sigh. I miss him so much! When I first met him two years ago, he was peeking through a canvas wall and was just as adorable as could be. I said, “hi! You’re cute!” and he replied, “I’m not cute! I’m Edward!” I always made it a point to greet him with, “hi, I’m-not-cute-I’m-Edward” at least once each faire weekend. He and his mom and dad moved back East after faire ended last year. E was the best little buddy in the world. We had “sword fights” and read books and played and basically had a good time.

Edward

Family L with Edward

This little boy? His name was Felix. He came by the guild and we dug through a bin full of books so he could take one home with him. We had a lot of books about animals, but the one animal he liked most was not amongst our collection. His favorite animal? A rhino! A boy after my own heart.

Felix who likes rhinos

Below, you’ll find a photo of a young man who happened to be a boxer. We ran across him at Southern (which is the oldest faire in the country) with his family. He spoke not a word of English, but his uncle was kind enough to translate for us. Not only was this young guy a boxer, he was also a model. My photo doesn’t even come close to doing him justice.

The Boxer

This float? One of many we use to decorate our encampment. I usually like to grab a few shots while we’re setting up just to remind myself how things were set up the previous season. This was one of two that I remembered to edit.

Finally, we have this. Do you know what it is?

Do you know what it is?

Grumbling and Fumbling

Da Goddess @ 20:27

I used to be able to do all sorts of silly cut & paste and morphing and such with photos. Remember that? Remember DaGoddess/DrPhil? (It was disturbing, but funny.) Suddenly, I can’t seem to resize a selection and then blend it into another image. Did I forget how or is it a problem with my PaintshopPro? I wish I could figure this shit out because I have an idea in my head and want to make it happen.

Please, dear gods of PaintshopPro, give me the ability to play and create and goof around once again.
